How To Spot FAKE Satin From Beauty Supply Stores!

I aint gon' hold you up sis, some of these beauty supply stores are straight upSCAN-DA-LOUS!! You hear me!?!?

Don't fall for the OKEDOKE and end up with your luscious hair drying up and then breaking worse than a box of uncooked spaghetti tumbling down a flight of stairs.

Some folks believe anything as long as the "label" says so, that's a BIG MISTAKE. And that's why they're paying good money for the privilege of some new split ends and brand new breakage, ughhh!

In fact, depending on where you live, MOST of these so-called satin scarves sold at the beauty supply store are as fake as promises from politicians.

The video below from our sista, OsaOsula Beauty, shows you how to find satin, real satin, that will hold in moisture and protect your natural hair AND extension hair as well (as long as it's high-quality, real human hair).

And after the video we also got some tips for folks who are getting skin breakouts even from real satin, so check that out below!. Now, on to the video!

Real Satin Scarves vs Fake Ones (VIDEO)
- How to Find a Satin Scarf for your Hair

How to not dry your hair out with FAKE satin…

PRO TIP: Wash Satin WEEKLY To Avoid Skin & Hair Problems

Look... 4c, 3b, 2c, 4b and whatever else textures ALL fall under this rule, still though, this is extremely important for type 4 naturals because we usually use thicker oils and butters on our hair and as a result we saturate or satin pillowcases, scarves, and natural hair bonnets with these products. So listen love....

It may sound simple, but many don't do this... You should wash your satins every week because you do not want old products transferring to your freshly washed hair and face causing pore clogging on your face and scalp.

Clogged scalps are hair-breakage factories and if these products keep getting on your face this will eventually cause acne and stubborn acne and nasty blemishes.

I don't know about you...

But I'm too cute for AWLLATT (Translation: "all of that", for the suburbanites among us), LOL!!!

So let's get to the best way to protect your satins and get more use out of them by washing them the right way...

How To Wash Satin Bonnets, Pillowcases & More...

Satin has a smooth feel that makes it appealing for many items from bedsheets to garments. It ranges in durability as well as cleaning options.

The smart natural hair sistas out there need to know that satin has special needs when cleaning, here's what you need to do...

  • Wash by hand or on the delicate cycle ONLY to protect your satin.
  • Use cold water along with a gentle detergent, like Woolite DELICATE CARE liquid. When hand-washing, let the satin soak in sudsy water for about 3 to 5 minutes, then gently squeeze the suds through the fabric.
  • Rinse thoroughly with cool water and NEVER wring or twist your satin clothing because it can easily lose its shape.
  • Don''t put your delicate satin items in a dryer PLEAAASE!!! Instead, lay the item flat on a clean, dry towel, and roll the towel, pizza-roll style, and apply pressure to squeeze out excess water.
  • Unroll, remove item and lay flat on another clean, dry towel to finish air drying, away from sun or excess heat. Satin items should be ironed on a medium/light setting, with no steam. Iron from the inside-out with quick strokes, never allowing the iron to linger too long on any one spot.

Top 10 Highest-Rated Shea Butters

If you've been in the natural hair community for any amount of time, it will come as no surprise to you that Shea Butter is one of the most beloved and useful natural hair products on the planet.

So I'd be an idiot not to give you the top 10 highest rated shea butters online.

Shea Butter provides moisture to dry or damaged hair from the roots to the very tips, repairs and protects your hair against weather damage, dryness and brittleness. It also absorbs quickly and completely into the scalp to rehydrate without clogging your pores. It is especially helpful for processed and heat-treated hair. It's a go-to treatment for dry scalp problems and it brings life and luster to damaged hair.

I personally have used it for years and years and years on my skin (I was born in 1977). And believe me, my skin shows great results now from years of keeping my face moisturized every morning. Shea Butter is like food for the skin containing Vitamins A, E and F. These vitamins fight against wrinkles and facial lines.

Has Coconut Oil Ruined My Hair? How To Use Coconut Oil For Natural Hair

If you've ever felt like "coconut oil ruined my hair", you're not alone sis...

Let's keep it trill ladies. Errrrthang aint for errrbody. And you're gonna find that even though certain hair growth oils do seem to be universally beneficial for almost every type of hair, honeeeey, coconut oil isn’t always one of them (unless you mix with honey, I'll explain more about that below).

coconut oil ruined my hair
coconut oil ruined my hair - Try Ghee

You tell me... Why is authentic 100% castor oil an age-old beauty secret for increasing hair growth while coconut oil is damaging many heads of hair in the natural hair community?

The wildest thing is that not everyone feels like coconut oil ruins their hair...

Many melanin mavens are using coconut oil on their hair and eyelashes and have seen amazing results, without a doubt.

So why should SOME natural-hair women avoid using coconut oil on their tresses? And how do you know if coconut oil bad is for your hair or not??

What Decides If YOU Get Coconut Oil Benefits for Hair?

It's pretty clear that coconut oil for black hair gets mixed results, some naturals swear by it. Others say coconut oil is the dang devil and might try to fight you if you put that stuff next to their luscious locs, HA!

So why exactly is this happening? Besides the fact that no one oil is going to work for everyone, there is more involved. For instance, do you have protein build-up?

Coconut oil works like a charm for protein retention. So if your hair suffers from lack of protein, coconut oil is a great product for you!

However, if your hair has protein build-up, repeated use of coconut oil will jack your hair up even worse. Girrrl, your hair is gonna be snap cracklin' and poppin' more than Rice Krispies Treats.

See... since coconut oil helps stop the loss of protein in your hair, if your hair already has enough protein and doesn’t need this extra "help" then it can cause your hair to be dry, brittle, and break off.

So if this is happening to you it's likely that your hair has enough protein.

[READ ARTICLE: 5 Reasons to "STOP Using Coconut Oil and Shea Butter"!]

The Protein Problem - Coconut Oil for Natural Hair

Protein build-up also the reason many natural hair sistas doesn’t like protein treatments or conditioners and creams with proteins in it.

Many call it being “protein sensitive” but it's really that you just have enough protein in your hair and don't need any extra.

Soooo, how do you know if you have protein build-up or not???

Well, if your hair is dry and fragile even AFTER you’ve moisturized it (deep conditioning, hot oil treatments, loc method) then chances are you have protein build up. But there’s a way to reverse it! First, check all of your products to be sure they do not have protein in them. Secondly, focus on keeping your hair moisturized with the right products.

For instance, you can use cold-pressed aloe vera for hair or a leave-in conditioner you like then seal in the moisture with sweet almond oil (I don't like the smell of A.O. so I prefer unscented...).

You will notice the elasticity in your hair come back and moisture retention pick up.

Has Coconut Oil Ruined My Hair? [Type 4 Natural]

Is Coconut Oil Bad For Type 4 Natural Hair Or Is It Still A Holy Grail?

So... Does Coconut Oil Ruin Natural Hair? Yes or No?

It truly does depend.

And I know, some feel 100% sure that "coconut oil ruined my hair" but think about things this way...

There are so many different textures of natural hair and coconut oil is not ruining everyone's hair. I can tell you this though...

Lovelies with looser natural hair textures and/or oilier hair may be lacking protein, many can even use coconut oil for hair loss prevention or try Moroccan Oil and see what it does for your hair.

For these particular natural hair Black women, protein is very necessary, and it may be due to their porosity-level. Let's not get it twisted...

On the other hand, Lovelies with coarse natural hair or already super dry hair probably aren't struggling with low protein at all, so coconut oil may lead to more brittle hair problems and natural hair loss. These naturalistas may benefit more from other types of oil like pure organic-grade marula oil and, of course, argan oil for hair and skin.

PRO TIP: How to Use Coconut Oil For Hair With OTHER Ingredients

If you feel like "coconut oil ruined my hair", here's what you can do...

When coconut oil for natural hair growth is combined with other Black hair growth oils and ingredients, not only is less coconut oil coming in contact with your hair to cause damage, but the combinations of healthful and helpful fatty acids can have different and POSITIVE effects instead of damaging your hair and making it brittle and ready-to-break.

For instance, coconut oil doesn’t seem to make hair dry or brittle when combined with the monounsaturated fatty acids from pure virgin olive oil or when mixed with argan or marula oil (both great for natural Black hair).

Pure honey also seems to make coconut oil even more beneficial for natural type 4 hair and the simple sugars in honey can nourish your kinky hair and make it naturally smooth and frizz-free.

So it's smart for you to patch test these different hair oil combos and you may just find the secret concoction that will have you looking like a natural hair model strutting your stuff down the catwalk.

And you won't say that coconut oil ruined my hair ever again! Although some natural will always feel like coconut oil AND EVEN SHEA BUTTER is the devil, lol.

She used vegetable glycerin because it is a natural humectant, which means it makes your hair strands absorb moisture from the environment more easily.

She also combined Uncle Funkies Shining Star Skin, Hair & Scalp Elixir which has jojoba oil with virgin coconut oil to go ahead and seal in all that hair health inducing moisture.

And as always she used her special hair growth oil, we have a great recipe you can use here:

The first style she did is one called the "Nubian Bun" and it is SUUUUUPER CUTE! If any of y'all have ever used the Curls passion fruit curl control paste like she did with this style, please DM me on our Instagram and tell me if the smell is as amazing as it should be for ANYTHING with passionfruit in it.

That is one of my FAVORITE fruits smells EVVAAAAAR! Anyway, back to the styles…

Oh, BTW it seems her hair growth routine is definitely working because her hair is thick and luscious.

Protective Styles 2-through-4 Work Off French-Braids

The 2nd style she did was a ROYAL-LOOKING, cute and trendy French-braid style.

The 3rd style is used the French-Braid natural hairstyle and made it more formal and business-ready. It looks soooooo moist and gorgeous OMG!

The 4th style is one that I didn't see coming and have never thought to do… She did some neat little bottom buns in the back after undoing the ends of the French-braids, I think you'll like it. I did, but probably not on myself, I'd definitely put this and a teen-to-early 20s girl though!

She has a very small channel, so not many people have seen it and when I searched online I didn't even find many folks EVEN ATTEMPTING to use Black rice (not brown or white, yes, BLACK) to grow hair.

Black Rice Water for Hair Growth is Unique...

You might already know that we have written about rice rinses and rice-based shampoos, still this is a pretty unique and new technique that got amazing results, if the video is to be trusted. Hey…

She DOES show BEFORE AND AFTER pictures of her growth pushing through the braids after using this black rice water for hair, so I really have nothing to say. I hope it's true shooooooooooooot… Lord knows we need more great 4C hair products that really work.

So check out this Black Rice Water for Black Hair Before and After video from Jazzy and judge for yourself. Maybe I'm just a dummy and believe everything, LOL! (But it looks like the real deal…)

Rinse w/ Black Rice for Hair Length Before & After Video

So Jazzy figured out how to make hair grow faster by using Black rice for hair water, she fermented rice twice but the first time was too fermented and she got it right on the second try.

You gotta be persistent ladies!

And thankfully, this Black fermented rice water for hair video she showed the water rice ratio and other details.

Why Rice Water Works Powerfully For Natural Hair...

Black rice water for growing kinky type 4C natural hair is effective, in fact, it's effective for all textures of hair, you do need to be careful about adding too much protein to your hair though.

Rice water boosts your hair health because all hair needs nutrients, vitamins and growth-promoting minerals. In fermented black rice water, there are tons of helpful of magnesium, niacin, vitamin K, selenium, folic acids, and vitamins B1 through B6.

Whenever you're looking a superior hair growth supplement or vitamin, it should naturally contain most of these same growth nutrients. These nutrients make black rice powerful for hair growth.

Regarding whether black rice is the best type of rice to use or not, it's interesting to note that black rice for hair is not actually real rice, instead, it's a type of grass.

So it technically can't be the best type of rice to grow your natural hair.

As far as real rice goes, brown is extremely nutrient-rich, but the only problem with rice that is higher in naturally-occurring nutrients is that it has an excess of protein in it, so you have to use these when your hair is in need of protein.

Also, be careful of rice that is totally stripped of hair growth nutrients. Avoid instant rice or pot-boiled rice, because those types have most of the minerals and vitamins pulled out.

How to Make Black Rice Water - Best Rice-to-Water Ratio

As far as the black rice water ratio goes...

For each cup of rice, use one cup of water. Depending on your natural hair length, you can add more. Your hair growth rice should ferment for a minimum of 24 hours, when you ferment your rice with water, it ferments into this valuable liquid hair vitamin.

After 24 hours, the nutrients are released into your rinse water for use. If any remains after use, you need to refrigerate hair growth solution, but throw it out after three days.

Because, wow, does rice water stink like heck when left out too long!

How To Do Havana Twists - What Hair to Use for Havana Twist Tutorial

You want to know how to do Havana Twists? Great, you'll find out how to do exactly that right now as well as learn what hair to use for Havana twists. When you look in any popular black natural hair products blog that shows the best protective braid hairstyles you'll likely see Havana style twists.

The problem is that many women don't know how to install them. Also, there are a few DOs and DON'Ts that we'll discuss on maintaining twists styles and then you can see the 3-part video special from Breanna Rutter on how to do it. She does an excellent job of giving a clear explanation and demonstration, she teaches you the right way to borrow hair, install invisible roots and much more. Much better than many other how-to-do videos out there.

The DOs & Don'ts Of Maintaining Havana Twists

What You Should Do...

Do #1 - Keep your twists moisturized. We love to recommend a special moisturizing cocktail using Shea Moisture Extra-Moisture Detangler mixed with Shea Moisture Damage Repair Hair & Scalp Serum and water, it works amazingly to keep your twists perfectly moisturized. Just mix it all in a spray bottle and spritz the mixture on your twists and scalp as needed.

Do #2 - Keep your scalp free of product buildup. Since Havana twists are fairly thick, you'll have more than enough room in between each twist to clean your scalp. We recommend that you use Shea Moisture Purification Masque to promote a truly clean and healthy scalp. It works great because you can apply the masque right onto your scalp to lift up any product buildup. After you rinse your scalp and Havana twists, be absolutely sure that the twists fully air dry in order to prevent odor, mold or mildew from forming in your Havana twists hair extensions (some women actually prefer to use Marley twists hair, it's your decision).

Do #3 - Be gentle when styling your Havana twists. Many women wear their Havana twists in a high bun on top of their heads, although it's a really chic and cute style, it creates a lot of pressure. The roots of each Havana twist then becomes "overdirected" meaning that this style of wearing them bends your hair root in a direction it doesn't naturally grow in which could cause your individual hairs to literally be pulled out of the hair follicle and lead to hair damage and hair loss. And let's be honest, all of the natural hair growth products in the world won't stop breakage against harmful manual manipulation. If you have your heart set on wearing a topknot, do so for short periods of time and be sure to let your twists down each night before you go to bed.

How to do Havana twists tutorial...

Don't Do These Things...

Don't #1 - Put too much pressure around your edges. This is a big NO-NO. Most women naturally have 'baby hair' around the edges that is a little shorter, much more fragile and the edges become hard to regrow. Havana twists are much larger in size, thus, there is a greater chance of them being too heavy around your hairline and causing breakage. To prevent breakage, uninstall the twists every two weeks and have to redo them. This not only keeps your twists looking fresh, but it's also a way for you to keep close tabs on your fragile edges.

Don't #2 - Leave Havana twists in too long. Braids hairstyles like this shouldn't be left in too long, 6 weeks is the maximum that is recommend. Leaving them in any longer than that could compromise the health of your own hair and may even lead to scalp infection from lack of thorough cleansing of your scalp.

Don't #3 - Get your Havana twists done too tight. Most breakage and traction alopecia is caused by hairstyles that are way too tight. When you're applying your moisturizing spray, your natural hair will naturally expand and swell up. Synthetic hair does not expand so if the twist is too tight but your hair wants to expand inside of that twist, your hair becomes more susceptible to breakage.

Curl Defining Products Reviews From Other Naturals

1. Aunt Jackies Curl La La Defining Curl Custard

"Amazing Definition!"

By SharLia

curl defining-productsI'm less than 24 hours natural (just got my relaxed ends cut today) and this is the first product I've used. Let me say, prior to putting this in hair my curl definition was non-existent. This stuff tightened my curl pattern, and made my hair incredibly soft, and moisturized. I can't stop touching it.

I'm going to have to pick up some more, because I have never had a natural hair product work AND be so affordable. I love my natural hair but with this stuff i love it even more...TRY IT!

2. Bio Infusion Curl Creme

This curl pomade is the BOMB. Works great on dry hair. The curl creme is good but it has a LOUD fragrance... It's not as noticeable the next day. If you have thin hair you may want avoid this product. Bio infusion curl creme is paraben and sulfate free (SEE THIS ARTICLE to avoid the most dangerous product ingredients). You don't have to use a lot of the product to get the defined curl look that you want. You get a good bang for your buck with this one.

3. Darcy Botanical Sweet Coco Bean Curl Smoothing Cream

"Great for high porosity curly hair"

By Sheri

My hair requires a lot of moisture, and it's texture ranges from silky curls to frizz. I put the Darcy Botanical Sweet Coco Bean Curl Smoothing Cream product on my wet hair and let it dry naturally. My hair feels healthier and the curls are more pronounced. I also used a botanical spray gel for curly hair, to tame the frizzy sections and to have a more manageable style. I'm pleased with this product- and I like the vanilla bean smell, and would definitely purchase again!

3. Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream

"Wonderful Curling Cream"

By Rebecca Cunningham

I bought this at Target I have used the co-wash and leave in conditioner which both are great. Cantu's products are on the low end for natural hair care and it delivers what it promises. I have used Miss Jessie's in the past which is ridiculously priced and doesn't curl my hair like this. I do not even have to use gel for the style to stay I love it. I have regular black folk hair with a little water, leave in conditioner and this product it curls just fine. I have also used Carols daughter Healthy Hair Butter which also brings out the curl pattern but I have to use a little gel with that to maintain the curls. Use what works on your hair do not go broke trying to find a natural hair care product to give your hair curls that it was not created to have. Enjoy the texture God gave you and be blessed.

4. Edens Bodyworks All Natural Curl Defining Cream

"My Go-To Curl Defining Magic!"

By Karen J.

Yes, I like this product and it has become by base product from which others are judged. curl defining-products edenIt is trusted and never let's me down. I even achieved my first wash and go with this product on 4b/c hair. It produced loose coily curls. Another good product for Wash and Go is the As I Am Naturally line and it produces a tighter coil and a different Wash and Go look.

My daughter who has more 4c than b does not achieve a wash and go with this product. Perhaps her hair needs more moisturizing since she is swimming everyday this summer, before she can achieve a wash and go with this product.

The product is primarily used to keep my ends and overall hair moisturized. On my hair it produces a soft hold. I am still very heavy handed using products so it is also oily to the touch, but that should change as I master the use of styling products.

Outstanding trustworthy product.

5. SheaMoisture Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

"Perfect"

By A. Allen

Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is an EXCELLENT creme hair dress and conditioner--think Vitapointe Creme Daily Hairdress, 7 Ounce or Liv Creme Hairdressing and Conditioner kicked up a dozen notches just for curls. No mineral oil, petroleum and beeswax--Shea, coconut , mango, aloe silk protein instead!

curl defining-products shea moisture
For Sale Right Now - Click HERE!

This product is best used just as you would a creme hairdressing. I use this in the same may my mother used Liv on my hair when I was little for braids/braid-outs, finger curls, twist/twist-outs and smoothing ponytails. It works great as a layer on wet hair. Use it after your leave-in conditioner and before your sealing oil. You only need a tiny bit for shine, moisture and de-frizzing . I tap my finger lightly into the product for each braid, twist etc. and take a little more only if I need it.

Do not expect hold from this product! I DO NOT use it to set my "wash and go". Curl Enhancing Smoothie is not intended to perform like an Eco Styler Gel or Kinky Curly Curling Custard. On the other hand, because the product hydrates curls, it is great for finishing your "wash and go" or "rod set" after it dries. It's also great for refreshing second day hair because it helps curls to spring back and smooths frizz.

My best advice for using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is use it to do what it's supposed to do.

6. Kinky-Curly Curling Custard

Review From BlackHairOMG Staff:

So many naturals tell us that Kinky-Curly Curling Custard is a tough natural hair product to master. It’s full of nourishing botanicals like agave nectar extract, aloe vera juice and marshmallow, and has a very slippery and goopy texture. curl defining products A little goes a long way, as it instantly clumps and smoothes your coils. Expect extremely shiny and springy coils. Although it works best on very tight, coarse coils in the “4” category, it might pack too much of a punch for loose curls.

Overall, ladies love this product for natural hair! It works great on hair that is 4a-4c and this natural hair product helps to define your curls and coils beautifully. We've noticed that some of the curly hair product reviewers are saying that this Kinky-Curly Curling Custard does not work for their 4-something type hair. The real problem is that some people don't truly understand their hair type. 4a type hair has S shaped strands with small yet a defined curl pattern and 4b hair generally has Z-shaped strands with no defined curl or coil pattern.

Remember that this product is not a chemical curl enhancer or a hair relaxer, therefore it won't give 4b hair a curl pattern when it doesn't already have one. Our suggestion to all those unsure of your natural hair type is to wash all products/oils/gels out of your hair with a clarifying shampoo then condition, rinse and air dry your hair. If you do not have defined curls or coils and your hair looks like a lovely soft fluffy cloud then you have gorgeous 4b hair. If you have 4b hair don't bother buying this product for Wash-n-Gos. Instead use it for twist-outs or braids-outs for similar results.

Be warned.... Some believe that regular Wash-n-Gos are unhealthy for type 4 hair anyway - the reason being the tangling that comes from 4a/b hair's super shrinkage may lead to breakage. It's recommended that all hair in the type 4 range be kept moist and stretched with ends protected at all times to keep breakage and tangling at a minimum. Many type 4 naturalistas are able to retain 6" of hair growth a year following this rule so give it a try.

Oh and KCCC works really great when you pair it with a superior leave in conditioner like Kinky-Curly Knot Today or Sensories Smooth Passionflower and Aloe leave in. Other curly hair products that are worth mentioning are Deva curl products for curly hair, we will have a few reviews on their best curl defining products very soon so subscribe to BlackHairOMG today for future updates!

What you will need:

Explanation of the process

There is a big difference with this method versus doing crotchet braid. With crotchet braids, your hair is curled prior to you installing it on the wig. If you ever had to curl your extension hair using perm rods before you know the potential dangers of using boiling hot water. You have to be extremely careful in order not to burn yourself.

No worries using this crotchet wig technique, you will not have to be on high alert for this. The cool thing is, once you have set all the hair that you are going to use you can get all of your hair curled in one easy step. Simply place all of the hair in a bowl of boiling hot water, pat dry with a towel as you normally would to remove excess water and remove from the rod and crochet away.

When you crochet the hair onto the wig it undoubtedly will go a whole lot faster, because you can easily see what you are doing. Whereas when you are doing extensions, areas like the back of your head will be very time-consuming.

4 Black Women Discuss Professional Hairstyles for Natural Hair In The Corporate World

Here’s the deal: Professional hairstyles for natural hair are becoming a very big topic of conversation lately.

With the up-rise of the natural hair movement and the large number of black women working in corporate America, it was bound to become a topic of conversation.

Do you work in corporate America?

Do you have plans to work a corporate job and keep your natural hair?

Well these women do and they talk about the challenges they face, silly questions they answer and the mental strength needed to be comfortable in their own hair when many people are not yet accustomed to seeing it or even understanding it.

Professional hairstyles for natural hair in the corporate world is often a matter of opinion, but when most of those that surround you have opinions based on lack of knowledge or exposure, how would you handle yourself?

That's what makes this video interview about corporate hairstyles for natural hair interesting.

The questions that these women have to face on a daily basis are quite revealing and has caused some to shy away from enjoying their natural hair to the fullest. Check out the video below and let me know in the comment section if you have any ideas of corporate hairstyles for curly hair that you will be rockin' while you're clockin' dollars.

The Reason Why This Hair Mask Softens Like Crazy...

It always helps to know the reason WHY you are putting certain ingredients in your hair so that you can start creating your own DIY natural hair recipes later on, if you need to. So look... ghee butter for natural hair

This softens like a CHAMP because butter contains many fatty acids that your hair easily absorbs and that work to make your hair healthier, while also smoothing the hair and adding ever-needed moisture.

That's one of the reasons that GHEE Clarified Butter is an exotic ingredient used for hair growth outside of the U.S.

Milk contains vitamin D, vitamin E & many different proteins that help make your hair shinier, while also repairing damaged hair and making it softer.

Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts moisture and prevents loss of moisture content.

Glycerin is a humectant that attracts moisture. Using this combination of ingredients in your hair mask will make your hair healthier and more beautiful, without the frizz.

In Defense Of Seun's Use of "Fake Hair" - Protective Styling Has a REAL Purpose

One thing I liked about the comments under the vid is that some other women stepped up and defended Seun about using the Italian Perm Yaki Hair so that she could go on living her best life and not be going back and forth with no haters, LOL! Check them out....

Shannon Barber says...

"For those keep asking why she is wearing fake hair. Well, some ppl like to wear protective styles to keep their hair thick and healthy from the breakage of combing and curling you're natural hair daily.

Also some ppl like versatile looks that last for days so they don't have to bother with combing their hair, esp those with a busy work life. Lastly, she's doing a TUTORIAL to show others how to create styles, not necessarily meaning she would wear this style or wear weave all the time.

Now stop asking. You sound rude and quite annoying. Btw, I thought the video was useful, as intended. Keep up the
great work..."

See The Crotchet Braid Styling Vid Below

Ebony Miracle Says...

I am seriously binge-watching your videos! I understand why you wear weaves(which has absolutely nothing to do with self-hate), the proof of the wonders and benefits of wearing protective styles is clearly in your natural hair which you proudly flaunt on a regular basis! Your tutorials get through to me in such a way that no other YouTuber has.

And for the first time in my history of wearing weaves, I am able to actually entertain the idea of installing my own weaves(may God help me!). I took down my weave not too long ago and noticed a significant amount of growth that I would not have noticed if I was constantly styling and manipulating my natural hair.

On top of that, the brotha is STRAIGHT UP CRUSHIN' on his wife. It's soooooo cute!

Last, but not least, this particular finger coil natural hairstyle is to die for, so hip and chic and just poppin' all the way around.

Product Warning Before Watching This Finger Coil Tutorial

One word of caution from a helpful commenter about one of the natural hair products that Yapah Rawchaa used, you may or may not care, but the sista who commented talked about Eco Styler gel.

Here's what Tamara Douglas said...

"Watch the youtube video titled: 'Why I stopped using eco styler gel.'

Eco styler gel has cancer causing ingredients! Try flax seed gel! It's cheaper and works way better!"

And Tamara is right, lots of new information has come out about Eco Styler gel, and it will give you something to think about, so take heed sis...

Anyway, we wanted to pick through all of the "bought and paid for" reviews that are so popular on Youtube these days and find you some honest reviewers, just like we did when The Mane Choice came out with their Type 4 Hair Line a few months ago. So let's get into it, shall we...

2 Youtubers who BlackHairOMG Trusts - Fro The Culture Reviews

Y'all already know we give tons of Youtube Gurus the super side-eye for various reasons.

But Kimberly Cherrell and Shenelle Taylor get our 100% AUTHENTIC BlackHairOMG STamp of Approval. They always give their real feelings even if they don't like a product.

Even in these reviews of "Do it FRO the Culture" from The Mane Choice, one of these sistas flat out says, she'll continue to use the rest of her bottles, but it's not really for HER. She loved the conditioner, but she says she pretty much loves ALL of The Mane Choices conditioners, but when it came to styling she had some different feelings....

Check out Kimberly Cherrell's video right now and see what you think...

Honest Review Video: Mane Choice 'Do it FRO the culture'

Our Main Choice of Comments That May Interest You

So while Kimberly had an issue with some of the products, other naturals who have tried it think it's the bomb! Hey, we're all different. Check out a couple comments about the NEW Main Choice Do it Fro The Culture line...

NaturalReign says...

"Girl you know I loved that gel, but I completely understand why it wasn’t your favorite. It didn’t do the things you love in a gel-like super definition, but honey that’s why I loved it. No crunch, not drying at all...."

Da Lazy Natural says...

"This Main Choice Do it Fro The Culture line would be good for a friend of mine who prefers the big fluffy fro look over defined with a little crunch. I like my curls defined with some crunch because I know it's going to last all week. I'm not now nor have I ever been one to wash my hair every few days.

My wash days are every week to week and a half (depending on how good I'm being). So I need products that will give me both moisture and hold while keeping the frizz at bay!"

The comments are full under these videos too! The Mane Choice is stirring things up once again with their unique marketing, beautiful packaging and attempts to cover the needs of EVERY type of natural. Check out this last review from Shenelle Taylor...

HOW TO: FLAT IRON NATURAL HAIR!

HOW TO FLAT IRON 4c type 4 NATURAL HAIR
POW!!!

OKAY listeeeeen, so you're about to see this really cute tutorial from a small Youtuber that really caught a lot of attention. Good AND bad attention girl...

Ahhh, I love the smell of fresh haircare dictators in the morning! Baaaaahaha...

Me personally, I can't understand why people get real-world angry about someone applying a little heat to their hair every blue moon. Yes, constant and harsh heat is a known hair killer, folks gets so EXTRA though!

4c type 4 natural hair community
Soooo.... I'm guessing you disapprove???

I mean, I don't use heat. But do you boo... And if I do have any reaction it maybe some CONSTRUCTIVE advice or if somebody is totally jackin' their hair up and don't wanna listen, I just sit back, grab some popcorn and get my giggle on.

Life's too short too catch a nervous breakdown over somebody else getting a bomb flat iron silk press on natural hair on somebody else's head of hair.

So let me tell you what happened girrrrrl, we've all seen the naturals that get waaaaay in their feelings about what someone else does with their own hair (you know the type), lol.

Well honeeeeeey, some of these folks I saw talkin' bukoo crap about this sista named Zoia was just a lil' too much.

Her tutorial below is actually quite good, truth be told. But she got soooo much backlash that she had to come back and explain her self...

[RELATED ARTICLE: Why I Can't Stand The "Natural Hair Community"]

Zoia Explains That There's No Reason to Be BIG MAD

So look, the sista ended up coming back to say to all the natural hair rulers of the world...

"Guys, lol. This is crazy I have to post this but I rarely straighten my WHOLE head because I wear sew-ins and do other things to my hair. I give my hair breaks all the time and prior to me straightening my hair this time I went 3 months without putting any heat on my hair!

I'm fine with my hair. It's still healthy with my little heat damage in the front! Thanks for the advice though... (smiley face)"

She kept it peaceful and classy, as a true Queen does... And besides that, the proof was ALL THE WAY in the pudding.

The End Results: FIRE

So not everyone was a negative Nancy, many naturals showed love and tried to let this sista be great the best way she knows how to be.

And hey, you'll see for your-dang-self... The style came out GORGEOUS and it's not everyday that you see such quality results when straightening natural hair.

In the end, she helped some ladies figure out how to get it right. Here's an example of one of the positive comments...

"This is straight hair goals. I don't throw heat into my hair too often, but when I do..it won't do right for anything, lol. maybe 10 minutes of being straight before reverting"

Maybe it'll help you too, straightening your natural hair isn't a sin... I'll link to the video tutorial below. Check it out...

That way you see some information you may have never seen and these sistas can get some more exposure and maybe more support from the community!

So let me introduce you to this Youtuber that I just discovered today, her name is Kaay, and she's a gorgeous chocolatey sister who has some really underrated styling videos. That's why she's in the Black hairOMG SPOTLIGHT today!

Don't Sleep On The Gems She Non-Chalantly Drops

One must-do tip that Kaay mentioned and demonstrated very quickly was to start buy spraying the hair down with water (make sure it's not hard water) before starting to style it.

Do NOT SKIP THIS STEP!

Even if you're going to eventually add other hydrating products for your hair, start with that spritz of water to moisturize. Why???

Because NOTHING hydrates better than pure water. Everything else is secondary, please remember that.
