I just thought I'd share a little of my story. I, like many others, have been battling hair loss for quite some time now. In my early years my hair was so thick that I had to have it "thinned" every three months.
Then I got sick with thyroid issues and stress and many other things.
My hair started thinning. It sucked. In my late 20s I had my kid and my hormones went haywire. It got to the point that I didn't want to leave the house due to my hair loss. It wasn't patchy but it was noticeably thinner. I could see my scalp everywhere. I tried every over the counter hairless goop, herbal remedies, hair growth oils, etc. Nothing was working.
There would be some very slight changes and then it would go back to falling out. I read somewhere about diatomaceous earth being a miracle. I thought it was just hype and internet lies so I moved on and tried many other supplements. Still nothing worked. Depression set in and almost all hope was gone. Then this spring I came across diatomaceous earth.
I decided to get some food grade DE to use around my house as well as drink and guess what?!?!? It's been 4 months and my hair is not shedding as much, I have new hair growth all over my scalp, and the established hair is growing faster than ever. I noticed little hairs popping up in front after 1.5 months.
Those hairs are now a little over an inch long and more new ones pop up every day! It's amazing! All I did was slowly work up to a tablespoon (over the first month) to my coffee and boom! Hair. I did have some detox symptoms in the first month but I pushed through and I'm so glad I did.
Anyone wanting to try or anyone already taking DE please dont hesitate to ask questions. I am so happy with the results and have been itching to talk about it! My parents think I'm nuts, but here's the kicker... they live 200 plus miles away and when I saw them last they both commented on my hair saying it had a ton of volume and was thicker and healthier looking.
First off, let's get the health stuff out of the way. I don't want to get too graphic here, but I will say I found diatomaceous earth's bowel-exfoliating effects to be impressive. My digestion is better, and for that reason alone, I can't fathom a time I'll want to stop taking it.
As far as the beauty benefits, I wanted longer, stronger hair, and I got it.
Silica, which is a type of silicon, is essential for collagen formation. In one study, animals that were supplemented with a small amount of highly bioavailable silicon had a 12% higher collagen concentration than animals who weren’t.
My hairdresser of six years recently told me, "Your hair is the thickest I have ever seen it." She wasn't lying either.
My nails were suddenly ridge-free, which is something I can't ever remember experiencing. But if you weren't totally sold, you should know that collagen, which is extremely important for healthy skin, is mostly made up of silica. When we're deficient in silica, our collagen breaks down more quickly, which makes the skin look old and dull.
Taking silica can restore and repair the collagen in our body. Silica also helps with skin problems like eczema, rashes, acne, warts, burns and insect bites. At this point, I'm a convert.

Review of some advanced features of FHI Heat Flat Irons
The Exclusive Proprietary Nano-Fuzeion™ Technology only exists in FHI hair straightening tools and products. They produce gently Far Infrared Heat, and low Electromagnetic Field is very effective for treating damaged hair gently.
Once you drag the flat iron on hair, it will lose heat, say, if the temperature set is 400F, when sliding the iron through your hair for a while, the temperature will drop to 390F.
The FHI solved this problem with their RAPIDTEK™ Heating Technology which instantaneously balances heat lost to maintain the temperature consistently from the root to the bottom of your hair. This feature is only offered with the FHI Heat EPS Black Diamond Digital model. The ceramic tourmaline plates significantly reduce heat damage while treating your hair gently.
I love this natural hair straightener. It was pricey, but 100% worth it. It is amazing at leaving my hair silky and smooth without taking away too much volume, and I also use it for curling my long natural hair and my hair always ends up looking super-pressed and great! I have the mermaid edition and I love the color, I love the heat proof mat and bag that came with it also!

The plates are made by 3 layers of ceramic. However the Runway model – one of the most expensive flat irons on the market features 6 layers and the LED display on the ion will show different colors when temperatures change to suitable hair types: red, blue and green zone. Looking at this color code you will never fail to set the wrong temperature for your hair type, it amazingly indicates the color match exactly for your type of hair.

One user and her sister have been using this flat iron and left this review...
My sister and I absolutely love this straightener, we would not trade this this for anything else. It came in on time with everything they said it would come with. We're blackgirls without perms and it does our hair wonders. I was recommended this product and decided to buy it off of Amazon seeing how it is one of my favorite sites to shop. The packaging was more than secure and I really appreciate that because it was a bit expensive. We still use it and have no complaints about it. I would definitely buy from this seller again and recommend all to choose this seller when buying hair products. Thank you
For those who use FHI the first time were impressive with the design, color, and result. One called it this is a curling iron and it works great on her natural hair. The iron gets hot very fast giving me a shiny straight look. If you have a natural hair like me, it is easy for you to straighten it at around 350F, a reviewer says.

FHI Runway Flat Iron Review & How To Use
In the video an learn how to curl hair with a FHI runway flat iron
The Runway FHI Flat Iron is the highest quality FHI ceramic flat iron, it's used by Hollywood stars and famous hairstylists. This is truly an evolved state of the art and tech-savvy flat iron that guarantees you the best hair straightening experience. The ergonomic design, modern technological innovation and unmatched performance are the most appealing aspects of this styling tool. Due to high price tag above $500, they are mostly used in elegant salons. The Runway possesses the highest quality ceramic plates with 6 layers.
The ceramic get hot really easily so it better to set it at a lower heat level and use a heat protector just to make sure you don’t burn your hair. Also, because my hair is really kinky so it really hard to straight it in one go. So I don’t recommend this as the best flat iron for black natural hair pressing or natural type 4C coarse hair, it's not the best choice for women that have kinky hair.
Although not everyone agress with this reviews point of view about the use on naturally kinky curly hair, take a look....
This Salon-Level Flat Iron Is Usually Priced Over $500
This model has superior ceramic plates, easy digital control and clear display as well visible colors on the LED to point out which temperature are being used.
Review of FHI Heat Straightening Iron: EPS Black Diamond Digital.
Made with advanced technology, this hair styling tool will make you feel like you're using a smart device, the FHI Flat iron is the combination of technology and style and known for bringing the grooming industry’s latest developments. If you are addicted to smart devices, this is an ideal device you and for the tech-savvy stylists.
The EPS iron features digital temperature control, color-coded for hair type and textures, and unmatched ceramic black diamond plates. The plates generate more 25% moisture-locking ions, drying out your hair will not be a major concern with this device.
The advantage of digital control is that you can change stepwise 1 degree, unlike conventional models there is limited setting( from 5 to 25).
The energy saving feature-sleeping mode will reduce the temperature into half after 3-minutes of non-use, then it will “awaken” when you touch it.
You see a lot of good things about FHI flat iron, there is a minor downside of this flat iron. Unlike other flat irons, EPS Black Diamond Digital doesn’t have the most common problem that comes from the heating such as the temperature of plates is not set exactly as number display on screen or on the dial. However, there are a couple of small complaints about the button for the digital model, some users find it is hard to press. It is not a big deal, above all, they are still a great value for the price. [ See article about the best blow dryer for natural hair]
Priced Just Under $200 Dollar
Here are some reviews of EPS Black Diamond Digital.
I've only been using this for a week, but so far I'm very happy. I had a Solia straightener for close to 10 years which I loved, but this is better. It heats quickly, sleeps when inactive (great for me as I sometimes forget to turn off and unplug in the rush of the morning), and has been great at smoothing my very thick hair. I also like the carrying case and extra long cord, which has a Velcro attachment so that you can tie up the excess cord if you don't need it to stretch so far or when putting away. I bought this at the recommendation of my hair stylist and as long as it holds up, I think it was a great purchase.
I love my FHI straightener, it gets hot without frying my hair and is fairly priced. they heat up quickly and have adjustable heat settings, which i always appreciate, as going to only one heat setting is sort of annoying. i have loved my FHI straightener for many years

It's a great way to use flexi rods on natural hair that you're growing out while transitioning from relaxed.
It really adds that perfect curl without applying heat! This is a tried and true heatless style as well as a certified protective hairstyle.

Flexi rods on Relaxed Hair or Transitioning Natural Hair Tutorial Products Used:
Just a quick note, the "Can my relaxed hair be healthy" series turned out to be bittersweet for your homegirl (me). Last week I did a quick roller set.
This week I did a roller set on the large size green flexi rods and thought it turned out super great.
But then, two days later the humid and soggy (hatin') weather and my hair did not get along or play nice with each other and my dang hairgot it's butt kicked and definitely lost the war!
So, let be clear and allow the record to show that it is not just sistas with Black natural hair who have to fight against crazy humidity and rain showers.
Dfeinitely rained on my hair's little parade, lol!
Sistas with straightened and relaxed hair have to be on the lookout as well! I did, however, get to write down in my hair journal exactly what I did to my relaxed hair in my Healthy Relaxed Hair Journal and thank the Lord that I got a few nice hair photos snapped before the bad weather took me and my flexi rod curls on relaxed hair out of the game for good.
Don't believe the myths. Always understand that relaxed hair can very much be relatively healthy as long as you take proper care of your tresses!

"This shampoo has given me and everyone in the family who used it, severe dandruff. I have never experienced any bad reaction with any shampoo that I've used in the past but this shampoo has been terrible. It says it "fights against drying, damaged, and dehydrated hair", but that's exactly what it does to your hair. It causes drying, damages and dehydrates your hair. It has many chemicals in the shampoo and only on close inspection of ingredients, you'll able to find them. The delivery was also late. [ SEE SIMILAR ARTICLE: What Does MoroccanOil Do To Curly Hair... ]
The only good thing about the shampoo was, that it smelled good but that's not the reason why I bought the stupid shampoo. Don't believe all the claims that it has a blend of organic and natural ingredients. It's all lies."

Judging Bad Reviews
LOL, homegirl was NOT HERE FOR THIS ONE, and when she called the shampoo "stupid" I could almost hear a lil' angry voice in my head say it, ha!
But the review was soooo angry that I started to think, "is something wrong with the shampoo or with her?"
Who really knows, but I like to read the negative reviews always, that way I can judge if they sound credible or not.
In this case, I can't really tell, but the ingredient list for this shampoo is loaded with goodies and really caught my eye. So I may have to try it for myself.
Are you impressed by the ingredient list on this one too?
The Gro aut hair oil company says that their specialized oil makes you GROW YOUR HAIR QUICK and that you may see hair growth begin in as little as seven days.
They also say that it's an easy process, simply apply directly to your scalp twice weekly to quickly help cover balding patches and restore your edges and define your hairline. Still though, you can expect them to toot their own horn, that's why REAL PEOPLE REVIEWS from women who have used Gro-aut hair oil are important to people like me.
So below you will see some of the reviews that were voted "MOST HELPFUL" by the Amazon customer community and we get to see what folks really experienced with this natural blend of 9 Ayurvedic herbs. So let's get to it!
"Rare treasure! Hard to find product that doesn't have junky fillers!!" - 5 STAR Review
I love this Gro Aut hair growth and health oil. Why? its hard to find an honest company that doesn't cut corners and use cheap fillers. The ingredients are as wholesome as your gonna get! Worth every penny!!
Coconut oil promotes the scalp health fighting against such problems as insect bites, lice and dandruff and it's anti-bacterial properties. Coconut oil moisturizes dry hair, much like Olive Oil.
Olive Oil Fights Inflammation thus preventing folliculitis that can lead to bald spots. Jojoba oil is high in vitamins A, E and D and is great for all hair types. Jojoba oil helps repair damage to your hair and promotes new, healthy hair growth. Amla, one of the best cures for hair loss, stimulates hair growth owing to its high iron and carotene content, it has the ability to penetrate the scalp deeply and nourish it from within.
Extremely high in Vitamin C. Eclipta Albaa.k.a bringha, aside from its other incredible benefits like the herbs ability to awaken hair follicles from their dormant state and prolong the amount of time they stay in the active, growing stage. Here's something mind blowing! Eclipta Alba grows hair quicker than minoxidil!!!! Rosemary oil can counter hair loss by stimulating blood circulation in the scalp, which, in turn, promotes hair growth. Lavender oil is said to nourish and moisturize the scalp and hair strands.
This makes it ideal for treating dry, brittle hair strands and ends. MSM is sulfur- one of the principle building blocks of hair (and nails). So MSM helps hair growth because it gives your body a building block for hair. Biotin is an essential for the hair growth process.
Lastly, the most important ingredient of them all, LOVE, I’ve come to learn that the mission of company is to donate a portion of their sales to charities and organizations that support autism research and to organizations that support families of children with special needs. My hair has done well on this product and i hope it helps you too.
Sidenote: This review above SEEMS like somebody from the company, it's just TOOOOOO positive, but you be the judge. Either way, the review was voted as very helpful....
"I Love this stuff, hair growth booster oil works as it says" - 5 STARS
I Love this stuff it works as it says..i wish they would come back with the two 8 OZ bottle sale..that was a great deal..it also last longer than 4oz bottle..the smell is wonderful...just love this product just now 8oz bottles cost way too much just like Moroccan Oil for hair and I cant afford to buy it anymore..
"The hair oil was very thick like glue, had to heat it" - 3 STARS
The Gro Aut hair oil was very thick like glue , it had to be heated to turn into oil , think i got a bad batch , the ingredients are really good for hair growth, but i don't like the fact that i have to fight to get it out of the bottle , don't know if i'll order again , the bottle is very small for such a big price

Don't get it twisted, although the majority over the Gro-aut hair oil users are happy with the results, it always helps to read the bad result too.
That way you can determine if they are legitimate complaints or just people who get mad when their ice is too cold. We've even seen cases of competitor brands leaving bad reviews under a brand and getting caught for it. Folks are so sneaky, lol.
I aint gon' hold you up sis, some of these beauty supply stores are straight upSCAN-DA-LOUS!! You hear me!?!?
Don't fall for the OKEDOKE and end up with your luscious hair drying up and then breaking worse than a box of uncooked spaghetti tumbling down a flight of stairs.
Some folks believe anything as long as the "label" says so, that's a BIG MISTAKE. And that's why they're paying good money for the privilege of some new split ends and brand new breakage, ughhh!
In fact, depending on where you live, MOST of these so-called satin scarves sold at the beauty supply store are as fake as promises from politicians.
The video below from our sista, OsaOsula Beauty, shows you how to find satin, real satin, that will hold in moisture and protect your natural hair AND extension hair as well (as long as it's high-quality, real human hair).
And after the video we also got some tips for folks who are getting skin breakouts even from real satin, so check that out below!. Now, on to the video!
Real Satin Scarves vs Fake Ones (VIDEO) - How to Find a Satin Scarf for your Hair
PRO TIP: Wash Satin WEEKLY To Avoid Skin & Hair Problems
Look... 4c, 3b, 2c, 4b and whatever else textures ALL fall under this rule, still though, this is extremely important for type 4 naturals because we usually use thicker oils and butters on our hair and as a result we saturate or satin pillowcases, scarves, and natural hair bonnets with these products. So listen love....
It may sound simple, but many don't do this... You should wash your satins every week because you do not want old products transferring to your freshly washed hair and face causing pore clogging on your face and scalp.
Clogged scalps are hair-breakage factories and if these products keep getting on your face this will eventually cause acne and stubborn acne and nasty blemishes.
I don't know about you...
But I'm too cute for AWLLATT (Translation: "all of that", for the suburbanites among us), LOL!!!
So let's get to the best way to protect your satins and get more use out of them by washing them the right way...
How To Wash Satin Bonnets, Pillowcases & More...
Satin has a smooth feel that makes it appealing for many items from bedsheets to garments. It ranges in durability as well as cleaning options.
The smart natural hair sistas out there need to know that satin has special needs when cleaning, here's what you need to do...
Wash by hand or on the delicate cycle ONLY to protect your satin.
Use cold water along with a gentle detergent, like Woolite DELICATE CARE liquid. When hand-washing, let the satin soak in sudsy water for about 3 to 5 minutes, then gently squeeze the suds through the fabric.
Rinse thoroughly with cool water and NEVER wring or twist your satin clothing because it can easily lose its shape.
Don''t put your delicate satin items in a dryer PLEAAASE!!! Instead, lay the item flat on a clean, dry towel, and roll the towel, pizza-roll style, and apply pressure to squeeze out excess water.
Unroll, remove item and lay flat on another clean, dry towel to finish air drying, away from sun or excess heat. Satin items should be ironed on a medium/light setting, with no steam. Iron from the inside-out with quick strokes, never allowing the iron to linger too long on any one spot.
We'll have two separate types of lists... the Best Sellers list and the 4 Stars or Better list (real customer ratings).

This trifecta of excellence is rarer than you think but with this shampoo and its sister conditioner my hair has finally met its perfect match ...." -Desert Gypsy (see more customer reviews)

If you've ever felt like "coconut oil ruined my hair", you're not alone sis...
Let's keep it trill ladies. Errrrthang aint for errrbody. And you're gonna find that even though certain hair growth oils do seem to be universally beneficial for almost every type of hair, honeeeey, coconut oil isn’t always one of them (unless you mix with honey, I'll explain more about that below).
You tell me... Why is authentic 100% castor oil an age-old beauty secret for increasing hair growth while coconut oil is damaging many heads of hair in the natural hair community?
The wildest thing is that not everyone feels like coconut oil ruins their hair...
Many melanin mavens are using coconut oil on their hair and eyelashes and have seen amazing results, without a doubt.
So why should SOME natural-hair women avoid using coconut oil on their tresses? And how do you know if coconut oil bad is for your hair or not??
What Decides If YOU Get Coconut Oil Benefits for Hair?
It's pretty clear that coconut oil for black hair gets mixed results, some naturals swear by it. Others say coconut oil is the dang devil and might try to fight you if you put that stuff next to their luscious locs, HA!
So why exactly is this happening? Besides the fact that no one oil is going to work for everyone, there is more involved. For instance, do you have protein build-up?
Coconut oil works like a charm for protein retention. So if your hair suffers from lack of protein, coconut oil is a great product for you!
See... since coconut oil helps stop the loss of protein in your hair, if your hair already has enough protein and doesn’t need this extra "help" then it can cause your hair to be dry, brittle, and break off.
So if this is happening to you it's likely that your hair has enough protein.
The Protein Problem - Coconut Oil for Natural Hair
Protein build-up also the reason many natural hair sistas doesn’t like protein treatments or conditioners and creams with proteins in it.
Many call it being “protein sensitive” but it's really that you just have enough protein in your hair and don't need any extra.
Soooo, how do you know if you have protein build-up or not???
Well, if your hair is dry and fragile even AFTER you’ve moisturized it (deep conditioning, hot oil treatments, loc method) then chances are you have protein build up. But there’s a way to reverse it! First, check all of your products to be sure they do not have protein in them. Secondly, focus on keeping your hair moisturized with the right products.
For instance, you can use cold-pressed aloe vera for hair or a leave-in conditioner you like then seal in the moisture with sweet almond oil (I don't like the smell of A.O. so I prefer unscented...).
You will notice the elasticity in your hair come back and moisture retention pick up.
Has Coconut Oil Ruined My Hair? [Type 4 Natural]
So... Does Coconut Oil Ruin Natural Hair? Yes or No?
It truly does depend.
And I know, some feel 100% sure that "coconut oil ruined my hair" but think about things this way...
There are so many different textures of natural hair and coconut oil is not ruining everyone's hair. I can tell you this though...
For these particular natural hair Black women, protein is very necessary, and it may be due to their porosity-level. Let's not get it twisted...
On the other hand, Lovelies with coarse natural hair or already super dry hair probably aren't struggling with low protein at all, so coconut oil may lead to more brittle hair problems and natural hair loss. These naturalistas may benefit more from other types of oil like pure organic-grade marula oil and, of course, argan oil for hair and skin.
PRO TIP: How to Use Coconut Oil For Hair With OTHER Ingredients
If you feel like "coconut oil ruined my hair", here's what you can do...
When coconut oil for natural hair growth is combined with other Black hair growth oils and ingredients, not only is less coconut oil coming in contact with your hair to cause damage, but the combinations of healthful and helpful fatty acids can have different and POSITIVE effects instead of damaging your hair and making it brittle and ready-to-break.
For instance, coconut oil doesn’t seem to make hair dry or brittle when combined with the monounsaturated fatty acids from pure virgin olive oil or when mixed with argan or marula oil (both great for natural Black hair).
Pure honey also seems to make coconut oil even more beneficial for natural type 4 hair and the simple sugars in honey can nourish your kinky hair and make it naturally smooth and frizz-free.
So it's smart for you to patch test these different hair oil combos and you may just find the secret concoction that will have you looking like a natural hair model strutting your stuff down the catwalk.
So, an admittedly "lazy natural" grows her hair 1" in a week with it…
This is crazy y'all, this sista named "Jazzy" DM'd me on our BlackHairOMG Instagram account to show me her new video about Gourmet Black Rice Water for Black Hair Before and After. And I aint gonna lie…
… When she said that she grew her hair 1" in a week I was giving her the super side-eye, THEN I saw the video. Look…
She has a very small channel, so not many people have seen it and when I searched online I didn't even find many folks EVEN ATTEMPTING to use Black rice (not brown or white, yes, BLACK) to grow hair.
Black Rice Water for Hair Growth is Unique...
You might already know that we have written about rice rinses and rice-based shampoos, still this is a pretty unique and new technique that got amazing results, if the video is to be trusted. Hey…
She DOES show BEFORE AND AFTER pictures of her growth pushing through the braids after using this black rice water for hair, so I really have nothing to say. I hope it's true shooooooooooooot… Lord knows we need more great 4C hair products that really work.
So check out this Black Rice Water for Black Hair Before and After video from Jazzy and judge for yourself. Maybe I'm just a dummy and believe everything, LOL! (But it looks like the real deal…)
Rinse w/ Black Rice for Hair Length Before & After Video
So Jazzy figured out how to make hair grow faster by using Black rice for hair water, she fermented rice twice but the first time was too fermented and she got it right on the second try.
You gotta be persistent ladies!
And thankfully, this Black fermented rice water for hair video she showed the water rice ratio and other details.
Why Rice Water Works Powerfully For Natural Hair...
Black rice water for growing kinky type 4C natural hair is effective, in fact, it's effective for all textures of hair, you do need to be careful about adding too much protein to your hair though.
Rice water boosts your hair health because all hair needs nutrients, vitamins and growth-promoting minerals. In fermented black rice water, there are tons of helpful of magnesium, niacin, vitamin K, selenium, folic acids, and vitamins B1 through B6.
Whenever you're looking a superior hair growth supplement or vitamin, it should naturally contain most of these same growth nutrients. These nutrients make black rice powerful for hair growth.
Regarding whether black rice is the best type of rice to use or not, it's interesting to note that black rice for hair is not actually real rice, instead, it's a type of grass.
So it technically can't be the best type of rice to grow your natural hair.
As far as real rice goes, brown is extremely nutrient-rich, but the only problem with rice that is higher in naturally-occurring nutrients is that it has an excess of protein in it, so you have to use these when your hair is in need of protein.
Also, be careful of rice that is totally stripped of hair growth nutrients. Avoid instant rice or pot-boiled rice, because those types have most of the minerals and vitamins pulled out.
How to Make Black Rice Water - Best Rice-to-Water Ratio
As far as the black rice water ratio goes...
For each cup of rice, use one cup of water. Depending on your natural hair length, you can add more. Your hair growth rice should ferment for a minimum of 24 hours, when you ferment your rice with water, it ferments into this valuable liquid hair vitamin.
After 24 hours, the nutrients are released into your rinse water for use. If any remains after use, you need to refrigerate hair growth solution, but throw it out after three days.
Because, wow, does rice water stink like heck when left out too long!

Curl Defining Products Reviews From Other Naturals
I'm less than 24 hours natural (just got my relaxed ends cut today) and this is the first product I've used. Let me say, prior to putting this in hair my curl definition was non-existent. This stuff tightened my curl pattern, and made my hair incredibly soft, and moisturized. I can't stop touching it.
I'm going to have to pick up some more, because I have never had a natural hair product work AND be soaffordable. I love my natural hair but with this stuff i love it even more...TRY IT!
2. Bio Infusion Curl Creme
This curl pomade is the BOMB. Works great on dry hair. The curl creme is good but it has a LOUD fragrance... It's not as noticeable the next day. If you have thin hair you may want avoid this product. Bio infusion curl creme is paraben and sulfate free (SEE THIS ARTICLE toavoid the most dangerous product ingredients). You don't have to use a lot of the product to get the defined curl look that you want. You get a good bang for your buck with this one.
My hair requires a lot of moisture, and it's texture ranges from silky curls to frizz. I put the Darcy Botanical Sweet Coco Bean Curl Smoothing Cream product on my wet hair and let it dry naturally. My hair feels healthier and the curls are more pronounced. I also used a botanical spray gel for curly hair, to tame the frizzy sections and to have a more manageable style. I'm pleased with this product- and I like the vanilla bean smell, and would definitely purchase again!
I bought this at Target I have used the co-wash and leave in conditioner which both are great. Cantu's products are on the low end for natural hair care and it delivers what it promises. I have used Miss Jessie's in the past which is ridiculously priced and doesn't curl my hair like this. I do not even have to use gel for the style to stay I love it. I have regular black folk hair with a little water, leave in conditioner and this product it curls just fine. I have also used Carols daughter Healthy Hair Butter which also brings out the curl pattern but I have to use a little gel with that to maintain the curls. Use what works on your hair do not go broke trying to find a natural hair care product to give your hair curls that it was not created to have. Enjoy the texture God gave you and be blessed.
Yes, I like this product and it has become by base product from which others are judged. It is trusted and never let's me down. I even achieved my first wash and go with this product on 4b/c hair. It produced loose coily curls. Another good product for Wash and Go is the As I Am Naturally line and it produces a tighter coil and a different Wash and Go look.
My daughter who has more 4c than b does not achieve a wash and go with this product. Perhaps her hair needs more moisturizing since she is swimming everyday this summer, before she can achieve a wash and go with this product.
The product is primarily used to keep my ends and overall hair moisturized. On my hair it produces a soft hold. I am still very heavy handed using products so it is also oily to the touch, but that should change as I master the use of styling products.
Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is an EXCELLENT creme hair dress and conditioner--think Vitapointe Creme Daily Hairdress, 7 Ounce or Liv Creme Hairdressing and Conditioner kicked up a dozen notches just for curls. No mineral oil, petroleum and beeswax--Shea, coconut , mango, aloe silk protein instead!
This product is best used just as you would a creme hairdressing. I use this in the same may my mother used Liv on my hair when I was little for braids/braid-outs, finger curls, twist/twist-outs and smoothing ponytails. It works great as a layer on wet hair. Use it after your leave-in conditioner and before your sealing oil. You only need a tiny bit for shine, moisture and de-frizzing . I tap my finger lightly into the product for each braid, twist etc. and take a little more only if I need it.
Do not expect hold from this product! I DO NOT use it to set my "wash and go". Curl Enhancing Smoothie is not intended to perform like an Eco Styler Gel or Kinky Curly Curling Custard. On the other hand, because the product hydrates curls, it is great for finishing your "wash and go" or "rod set" after it dries. It's also great for refreshing second day hair because it helps curls to spring back and smooths frizz.
My best advice for using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is use it to do what it's supposed to do.
So many naturals tell us that Kinky-Curly Curling Custard is a tough natural hair product to master. It’s full of nourishing botanicals like agave nectar extract, aloe vera juice and marshmallow, and has a very slippery and goopy texture. A little goes a long way, as it instantly clumps and smoothes your coils. Expect extremely shiny and springy coils. Although it works best on very tight, coarse coils in the “4” category, it might pack too much of a punch for loose curls.
Overall, ladies love this product for natural hair! It works great on hair that is 4a-4c and this natural hair product helps to define your curls and coils beautifully. We've noticed that some of the curly hair product reviewers are saying that this Kinky-Curly Curling Custard does not work for their 4-something type hair. The real problem is that some people don't truly understand their hair type. 4a type hair has S shaped strands with small yet a defined curl pattern and 4b hair generally has Z-shaped strands with no defined curl or coil pattern.
Remember that this product is not a chemical curl enhancer or a hair relaxer, therefore it won't give 4b hair a curl pattern when it doesn't already have one. Our suggestion to all those unsure of your natural hair type is to wash all products/oils/gels out of your hair with a clarifying shampoo then condition, rinse and air dry your hair. If you do not have defined curls or coils and your hair looks like a lovely soft fluffy cloud then you have gorgeous 4b hair. If you have 4b hair don't bother buying this product for Wash-n-Gos. Instead use it for twist-outs or braids-outs for similar results.
Be warned.... Some believe that regular Wash-n-Gos are unhealthy for type 4 hair anyway - the reason being the tangling that comes from 4a/b hair's super shrinkage may lead to breakage. It's recommended that all hair in the type 4 range be kept moist and stretched with ends protected at all times to keep breakage and tangling at a minimum. Many type 4 naturalistas are able to retain 6" of hair growth a year following this rule so give it a try.
Oh and KCCC works really great when you pair it with a superior leave in conditioner like Kinky-Curly Knot Today or Sensories Smooth Passionflower and Aloe leave in. "Girl you know I loved that gel, but I completely understand why it wasn’t your favorite. It didn’t do the things you love in a gel-like super definition, but honey that’s why I loved it. No crunch, not drying at all...."
Da Lazy Natural says...
"This Main Choice Do it Fro The Culture line would be good for a friend of mine who prefers the big fluffy fro look over defined with a little crunch. I like my curls defined with some crunch because I know it's going to last all week. I'm not now nor have I ever been one to wash my hair every few days.
My wash days are every week to week and a half (depending on how good I'm being). So I need products that will give me both moisture and hold while keeping the frizz at bay!"
The comments are full under these videos too! The Mane Choice is stirring things up once again with their unique marketing, beautiful packaging and attempts to cover the needs of EVERY type of natural. Check out this last review from Shenelle Taylor...

There are recipes for beauty regimens that contain everything from egg shells to rice water, and their uses have been passed down for generations among many cultures. One deliciously beneficial ingredient is the Paw-Paw fruit, also known as Papaya.
The papaya contains a large amount of Vitamin C, which is key for its restorative and healing properties. It also contains about 224% of your daily needs of vitamins and mineral. The papaya enzyme called papain breaks down proteins, fats and carbohydrates and works to prevent stomach disorders, diabetes, colorectal cancers, intestinal parasite infections, nerve pains and even elephantoid growths.
Carpaine is another chemical that the papaya has that kills off certain parasite infections. Papaya also has a host of other vitamins, acids, enzymes and minerals such as magnesium, copper, fiber, folic acid, vitamins E, A, B6, B1, beta carotene, and riboflavin. The chemical compounds in papaya are so effective that many people take the papaya enzymes in pill form.
The folic acid that papaya contains, as well as the Vitamin C improve circulation blood circulation throughout your scalp. The result of this is that your scalp is fed the nutrients and minerals that are needed to encourage healthy hair growth and stimulate your ever-important sebaceous glands. The sebum that is produced nourishes, conditions and protects the scalp, providing a healthy environment for new growth to flourish.
How To Use Papaya Topically
Blend 1 cup of papaya with 1 cup carrier oil and ½ cup Aloe Vera juice. Apply this mixture to your scalp and let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
Hair Growth Isn't The Only Reason To Get Your Paws on Some Paw-Paw!
Papaya is used for getting rid of nasty dandruff too. Because papaya contains so much Vitamin C and A, it aids in the removal of dead skin cells, encourages healthy cell regeneration and nourishes your hair shaft. If you’re fighting against that dirty-lookin' dandruff, papaya could be the solution to your problems.
Papaya seeds have complex anti-fungal properties that help ward off and prevent dandruff. You can either use papaya seed oil, or you can blend the papaya seeds together with a good carrier oil to make a paste, apply it to the scalp and rinse out.
Product Build Up BE DARNED!
Product build-up and dead scalp skin are two major problems associated with stagnant hair growth. When the pores of your scalp are clogged, girrrrrrl, you are beggin' for trouble. they don’t get the nutrients and moisture that is needed to produce sebum. This can cause hair fall,
In that condition, your scalp doesn't get the nutrients and moisture that is needed to make hair-health promoting sebum. This can cause hair fall, dandruff and even make that your precious new growth is all brittle and ready to break of before it can even do anything. Papaya can remove residue, excess oils and dirt, from both the hair and scalp.
A DOPE Natural Conditioner!
The same enzymes that are used to tenderize meat also have a conditioning effect on the hair. We talked about how papaya can remove product build-up on your luscious tresses. Now once that gunky build-up is gone, your cuticles are able to open up and suck up that moisture and those nutrients can be infused into your hair shaft, and then shut back so that the moisture and nutrients are locked in.
You can find many products that contain papaya leaf extract which has been shown to revitalize and condition hair, or you could blend ½ of a papaya with 1 cup of yogurt and 1 tbsp. of honey to make your own homemade conditioner.

It's no secret that massaging your scalp stimulates hair growth through increased blood circulation and superior scalp health. ( For more scalp health info read about the WOW method)
Still though, massaging ANYTHING with your hands for more than a couple minutes can getting tiring, can cause hand cramping and if you have arthritis (or 'Arthur' as my mama used to say).... forget about it!
It has soft vibrating tips that deep massage your scalp, it's waterproof for use in the shower or bath. You'll experience the benefits of enhanced cleaning to help your hair grow out faster.
In my opinion, massaging your scalp should be a part of everyone's weekly routine. I've noticed that I remember to keep up with my routines when I've invested in things that give me quicker results and help me do less work.
Yeah, I'm lazy & triflin' SOMETIMES, haa! But honestly, this is not just about being lazy, the type of massage you get from this scalp massage brush is lot more thorough and quicker without tiring your hands out. It just makes sense.
The Vitagoods scalp invigorating massage brush works with batteries and has an ON/OFF button to crank up the massage vibrations.
Naptural85 used this after her deep conditioning session and loved it, and now she uses it every time she co-washes her hair.
She says that her scalp feels so much cleaner since using the massage brush and she is really a big fan, you can tell because she uses it so much that the name of the product is wearing off, you can hardly see the letters anymore, lol!
And remember that this Vitagoods scalp massage brush is powerfully efficient, you don't need to grind away with your hands. You can think of it much the way you'd think of an electric toothbrush, you don't want to put tons of pressure on it, just apply it with light pressure and let it do it's job.
Benefits of Blood Circulation On Your Scalp
The deep massage you get from this massage brush greatly increase your circulation. But why is that important? Well... Circulation determines the flow of oxygen into the scalp, your follicles need this for healthy, steady hair growth. You can give your scalp a boost in circulation by massaging it.
One way scalp massaging increases blood circulation is by warming the vessels. This makes the roots stronger, which helps slow or stop excessive shedding beyond the normal or average hundred strands a day.
Massaging also reduces stress hormones that interfere with the your hair growth cycle. When your stress hormones are raging, your body compensates and doesn’t run as efficiently. This means your body will use the water and food you consume to keep your vital organs operating; your hair, skin and nails are last on your body’s priority list of nutrient distribution and suffer the ugly consequences. The Vitagoods scalp massage brush helps you massage your scalp to superior health and promotes a scalp condition that is ready for hair growth.
Products Often Used With The Vitagoods Massage Brush
1. FORMALDEHYDE: This is not only a product used in some hair products but in MANY nail polishes, formaldehyde should definitely be a "NO-GO" in the hair lines you choose to use.
It's often used in hair care products containing water to slow bacteria growth. That's all well and good but Formaldehyde is a suspected carcinogen and may cause skin reactions, lead to joint pain, allergies, trigger heart palpitations, headaches, ear infections, dizziness, and chest pains. (Join 17,700+ Lovely Sistas who are getting smart, fast hair growth tips)
2. METHYLENE GLYCOL: Beware.... This is nothing more than Formaldehyde by another name.
Leading hair straighteners, including Brazilian Blowout, claim that formaldehyde mixed with water creates a new chemical, methylene glycol. That is like saying that sweet tea does not contain sugar.
3. ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL: This ingredient has the MAJOR potential to dry your hair out and cause serious breakage! It can be found in cosmetics, hand lotion, and hair color rinses. Natural hair of African descent does not interact with this ingredient well at all.
This ingredient can also cause dizziness, depression, headaches, and nausea if inhaled directly. Definitely crossing this off of my list of ingredients I allow/turn a blind eye to. If you see Isopropyl alcohol in your ingredient list toss it (especially if it is listed in the top 10 ingredients on the list)
4. PROPYLENE GLYCOL: It's always troubling when products that are used for other non-human related things are used in a hair product or ingredient that has to come in contact with our skin. This is one of them.
Propylene glycol is used as the main ingredient in antifreeze if you can believe that!
People who work with this substance are told to wear gloves since it easily penetrates the skin, however we apply this humectant to our bodies quite frequently (deodorant, makeup, toothpaste, hair care products…etc) without any form of protection.
This chemical is stated to cause dry skin, dermatitis, hives, eczema, and other allergic reactions.
5. IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA and DMDM HYDANTOIN: Thought we'd finished talking about formaldehyde? I wish... These ingredients actually release formaldehyde (ugh!) They can cause irritation to your respiratory system and create heart palpitations!
6. DEA (diethanolamine) MEA (momoethnanolamine) TEA (triethanolamine): DEA and MEA are hormone disrupting chemicals that are usually listed with the compound being neutralized.
Most beauty products contain this like bubble baths, body washes, facial cleansers, and soap. These ingredients if absorbed into the skin frequently can lead to liver and kidney cancer.
They also lead to dry hair and skin. Which is why they are a big no-no for your hair care regimen. Even natural products use DEA and MEA on occasion which is why it is still important to read the label of a “natural” or “organic” product! ( Get FREE Hair Growth Tips for 4c Hair HERE)
7. SODIUM LAURYL SUFATE (SLS) & SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES): This product is a detergent used in most shampoos and foaming properties. SLS strips your hair of its natural oils and leave it dry and brittle.
Because they are cheap ingredients they are used in most personal care produces and is used in testing labs as the standard to irritate skin.
If you use shampoo with SLS there is a possibility that it may be absorbed into the body which is not a good thing at all.
Too much presence of nitrates can become toxic in the body. This ingredient can stay in your body for up to five days, and it may be damaging to the immune system especially in through your skin.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)– SLES is the alcohol form (ethoxylated) of SLS. It is slightly less irritating than SLS, but may be more drying. Both ingredients can be absorbed into the blood stream through the skin.

It allows you to straight kinky/curly hair without the high heat of professional-level flat irons. There had been a ton of Tweets and Facebook posts in different Black Hair Groups about the new miracle hair tool.
But there was one big problem....
The $300 PRICE TAG!!!
Like many others at the time, I wasn't dropping no dang $300 for it.
But all y'all that was complaining right along with me will be hyped up that 10 months later the price has dropped to less than $200! And that's FROM DAFNI (the real manufacturer), be careful of people selling knockoff fakes.
I say to be careful of the fakes and knockoff brands because there are TONS of them out now after the success of Dafni's Brush. The DAFNI company is the originator of this beloved "hair straightening ceramic brush", some have bought fakes and been very upset about it.
But anyway, the idea of the Dafni brush is similar to any other straightening tool - you slowly run the hot ceramic through your hair and it gets rid of any waves or kinks.
What DAFNI claims makes their product better than competitors is that it has more surface area than the traditional straightener, which means that your hair could be done in as little as two minutes. Plus since it's already a brush, the hair wouldn't get tangled.
The Dafni Brush at work on Kinky/Curly Natural Hair!
Here is a popular video from a Facebook user named Kimberley Satterwhite, she posted her first experience using it and she thought you might like that we share it with you right here. See the video below.
Be honest, what do you think of the results?
Given the texture of the little girl’s hair that it was demonstrated on, do you think this will work for your texture?
Here's Kimberly's (the mom) Comment From Her Video Post:
Sometimes things look so good you have to think, "That just can't be!" And "It's just too good to be true!" Like how I earn 6 figures as a stay at home mom. I just say, "Let's just Try it & see"! I understand how it feels to be a total skeptic of something! So I'm going to try out the 'Dafni Ceramic Straightening Brush'. DOES IT WORK?! You can see for yourself IF In Fact IT Works or not?! This takes the place of flat ironing and saves you MAJOR TIME! I am TOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!
NOTE: I was so excited to use this i didn't wash my daughters hair. She does have GEL in her hair i just ran it through really quick to test it. Imagine this on her CLEAN hair! WOW. I'm very happy with this product! (Get Hair Growth Tips from BlackHairOMG's Email Tipline)

The only thing we didn't think was that great was the choice of flat iron. The Remington flat iron is a flat iron for people who have never used a top-tier flat iron and are looking for something cheap. Nothing wrong with that, it cost so little money that you really can't complain. But if you are looking for much better flat ironing and curling results, it may be wise to invest in a hair tool that is made for ultimate performance and that will last for a long time.

Let's be honest, it hurts to constantly shed and lose the hair we have, or simply NOT GROW fast and long enough.
For these reasons, exotic herbal tea rinses are starting to getting so much attention in the natural hair world recently.
Even the not-so-exotic herbs, like Bigelow green tea and black tea are frequently discussed. And it turns it that there is scientific backing to the benefits of tea rinsing for keeping and growing hair. Even women suffering from losing their edges have seen success mixing up a special brew!
Lets look at the 3 scientific reasons tea rinses help your hair stop shedding and grow.
1. Amino acids – Strengthens Your Hair
Strong hair retains itself. That's what theanine does for you. Theanine is an amino acid that is unique to certain types of tea. Studies show that a purified extract of this amino acid could penetrate fully through to the hair cortex of bleach-damaged hair after a 10 minute soak at 30°C .
Even if your hair hasn't been damaged by bleaching, it is possible to accumulate damage to the cortex due to styling and combing as well as common weathering. A tea rinse can be considered as a very mild protein treatment.
2. Caffeine – Stimulate Hair Growth
Did you know your hair follicles can take up several drugs and caffeine is one of them? Studies done once more on human hair in a petri-dish showed that the hair follicles do rapidly take up caffeine and this stimulates hair regrowth for hair previously showing signs of hair loss. (International Journal of Dermatology, pg 27-35, 2007).
3. Polyphenols – Stimulate Hair Growth Green tea has been studied as a possible treatment for hair loss. It is preferred over black tea as the roasting of tea to create black tea oxidizes the polyphenols. Tests so far have been performed on rats as well as human hair in a petri-dish with similar results. The polyphenols are seen to stimulate re-growth of hair. So if you have problem spots, for example, your edges, or are experiencing hair loss, then a tea rinse may be worth a trial.
How To Brew Your Tea Rinse
We will give you a great list of exotic herbs to use at the end of this article. After you've decided which herb(s) will get the job done, follow the steps below:
Place the herb(s) in a pitcher (glass is ideal).
Pour boiling water over the herb(s), cover, and steep for 10-20 minutes.
Strain the mixture and allow the liquid to cool.
Pour over your head after using a high quality shampoo, conditioner, and finishing your detangling session. Do not rinse out.
