Diatomaceous Earth Hair Growth 101 [Eat Dirt For Fast Hair Growth]

diatomaceous earth hair growth results before and after hair growth and diatomaceous earth - diatomaceous earth grow hair fast -
Hey! Will you get Diatomaceous Earth hair growth results from this powerful supplement? Let's see...

Here's the reason why Diatomaceous Earth hair growth results are fast and strong...

Look:

Here's what happened when I got lots of hair growth from food grade Diatomaceous Earth.

I'd been taking Diatomaceous Earth (food-grade ONLY of course)

I just thought I'd share a little of my story. I, like many others, have been battling hair loss for quite some time now. In my early years my hair was so thick that I had to have it "thinned" every three months.

Then I got sick with thyroid issues and stress and many other things.

My hair started thinning. It sucked. In my late 20s I had my kid and my hormones went haywire. It got to the point that I didn't want to leave the house due to my hair loss. It wasn't patchy but it was noticeably thinner. I could see my scalp everywhere. I tried every over the counter hairless goop, herbal remedies, hair growth oils, etc. Nothing was working.

There would be some very slight changes and then it would go back to falling out. I read somewhere about diatomaceous earth being a miracle. I thought it was just hype and internet lies so I moved on and tried many other supplements. Still nothing worked. Depression set in and almost all hope was gone. Then this spring I came across diatomaceous earth.

I decided to get some food grade DE to use around my house as well as drink and guess what?!?!? It's been 4 months and my hair is not shedding as much, I have new hair growth all over my scalp, and the established hair is growing faster than ever. I noticed little hairs popping up in front after 1.5 months.

Those hairs are now a little over an inch long and more new ones pop up every day! It's amazing! All I did was slowly work up to a tablespoon (over the first month) to my coffee and boom! Hair. I did have some detox symptoms in the first month but I pushed through and I'm so glad I did.

Anyone wanting to try or anyone already taking DE please dont hesitate to ask questions. I am so happy with the results and have been itching to talk about it! My parents think I'm nuts, but here's the kicker... they live 200 plus miles away and when I saw them last they both commented on my hair saying it had a ton of volume and was thicker and healthier looking.

That's when i told them what i had been doing. Lol Anyway, I hope this gives others hope and possibly a solution to their hair loss. (RELATED: Is rice water good for natural hair?)

Diatomaceous Earth Help Your Body Be Healthy

First off, let's get the health stuff out of the way. I don't want to get too graphic here, but I will say I found diatomaceous earth's bowel-exfoliating effects to be impressive. My digestion is better, and for that reason alone, I can't fathom a time I'll want to stop taking it.

As far as the beauty benefits, I wanted longer, stronger hair, and I got it.

Silica, which is a type of silicon, is essential for collagen formation. In one study, animals that were supplemented with a small amount of highly bioavailable silicon had a 12% higher collagen concentration than animals who weren’t.

In this Diatomaceous Earth Hair Growth study, supplementing women with a form of silicon (choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid) increased the strength and thickness of their hair.

My hairdresser of six years recently told me, "Your hair is the thickest I have ever seen it." She wasn't lying either.

My nails were suddenly ridge-free, which is something I can't ever remember experiencing. But if you weren't totally sold, you should know that collagen, which is extremely important for healthy skin, is mostly made up of silica. When we're deficient in silica, our collagen breaks down more quickly, which makes the skin look old and dull.

Taking silica can restore and repair the collagen in our body. Silica also helps with skin problems like eczema, rashes, acne, warts, burns and insect bites. At this point, I'm a convert.

There isn't any vitamin on the market that can produce the same results.

Review of some advanced features of FHI Heat Flat Irons

The Exclusive Proprietary Nano-Fuzeion™ Technology only exists in FHI hair straightening tools and products. They produce gently Far Infrared Heat, and low Electromagnetic Field is very effective for treating damaged hair gently.

Once you drag the flat iron on hair, it will lose heat, say, if the temperature set is 400F, when sliding the iron through your hair for a while, the temperature will drop to 390F.

The FHI solved this problem with their RAPIDTEK™ Heating Technology which instantaneously balances heat lost to maintain the temperature consistently from the root to the bottom of your hair. This feature is only offered with the FHI Heat EPS Black Diamond Digital model. The ceramic tourmaline plates significantly reduce heat damage while treating your hair gently.

I love this natural hair straightener. It was pricey, but 100% worth it. It is amazing at leaving my hair silky and smooth without taking away too much volume, and I also use it for curling my long natural hair and my hair always ends up looking super-pressed and great! I have the mermaid edition and I love the color, I love the heat proof mat and bag that came with it also!

The plates are made by 3 layers of ceramic. However the Runway model – one of the most expensive flat irons on the market features 6 layers and the LED display on the ion will show different colors when temperatures change to suitable hair types: red, blue and green zone. One user and her sister have been using this flat iron and left this review...

My sister and I absolutely love this straightener, we would not trade this this for anything else. It came in on time with everything they said it would come with. We're blackgirls without perms and it does our hair wonders. I was recommended this product and decided to buy it off of Amazon seeing how it is one of my favorite sites to shop. The packaging was more than secure and I really appreciate that because it was a bit expensive. We still use it and have no complaints about it. I would definitely buy from this seller again and recommend all to choose this seller when buying hair products. Thank you

- Shayna

For those who use FHI the first time were impressive with the design, color, and result. One called it this is a curling iron and it works great on her natural hair. FHI Runway Flat Iron Review & How To Use

In the video an learn how to curl hair with a FHI runway flat iron

The Runway FHI Flat Iron is the highest quality FHI ceramic flat iron, it's used by Hollywood stars and famous hairstylists. This is truly an evolved state of the art and tech-savvy flat iron that guarantees you the best hair straightening experience. The ergonomic design, modern technological innovation and unmatched performance are the most appealing aspects of this styling tool. Due to high price tag above $500, they are mostly used in elegant salons. The Runway possesses the highest quality ceramic plates with 6 layers.

The ceramic get hot really easily so it better to set it at a lower heat level and use a heat protector just to make sure you don’t burn your hair. Also, because my hair is really kinky so it really hard to straight it in one go. So I don’t recommend this as the best flat iron for black natural hair pressing or natural type 4C coarse hair, it's not the best choice for women that have kinky hair.

Although not everyone agress with this reviews point of view about the use on naturally kinky curly hair, take a look....

This Salon-Level Flat Iron Is Usually Priced Over $500

This model has superior ceramic plates, easy digital control and clear display as well visible colors on the LED to point out which temperature are being used.

Review of FHI Heat Straightening Iron: EPS Black Diamond Digital.

Made with advanced technology, this hair styling tool will make you feel like you're using a smart device, the FHI Flat iron is the combination of technology and style and known for bringing the grooming industry’s latest developments. If you are addicted to smart devices, this is an ideal device you and for the tech-savvy stylists.

The EPS iron features digital temperature control, color-coded for hair type and textures, and unmatched ceramic black diamond plates. The plates generate more 25% moisture-locking ions, drying out your hair will not be a major concern with this device.

The advantage of digital control is that you can change stepwise 1 degree, unlike conventional models there is limited setting( from 5 to 25).

The energy saving feature-sleeping mode will reduce the temperature into half after 3-minutes of non-use, then it will “awaken” when you touch it.

You see a lot of good things about FHI flat iron, there is a minor downside of this flat iron. Unlike other flat irons, EPS Black Diamond Digital doesn’t have the most common problem that comes from the heating such as the temperature of plates is not set exactly as number display on screen or on the dial. However, there are a couple of small complaints about the button for the digital model, some users find it is hard to press. It is not a big deal, above all, they are still a great value for the price. [ See article about the best blow dryer for natural hair]

Priced Just Under $200 Dollar

Here are some reviews of EPS Black Diamond Digital.

I've only been using this for a week, but so far I'm very happy. I had a Solia straightener for close to 10 years which I loved, but this is better. It heats quickly, sleeps when inactive (great for me as I sometimes forget to turn off and unplug in the rush of the morning), and has been great at smoothing my very thick hair. I also like the carrying case and extra long cord, which has a Velcro attachment so that you can tie up the excess cord if you don't need it to stretch so far or when putting away. I bought this at the recommendation of my hair stylist and as long as it holds up, I think it was a great purchase.

I love my FHI straightener, it gets hot without frying my hair and is fairly priced. they heat up quickly and have adjustable heat settings, which i always appreciate, as going to only one heat setting is sort of annoying. i have loved my FHI straightener for many years

How To Pineapple Natural Hair & SAVE Your Curls! [Natural Hair Pineapple Tutorial]

LOOK TO THE LEFT OF THIS PAGE and SHARE THIS article on Facebook or Twitter for your friends, it will help us keep providing free info too!

When you see a natural hair pineapple you realize that the genius of the Natural Hair community is ALWAYS on display. The different ways that we invent homemade natural hair & beauty products and creative ways to protect our lusciousness in order to keep the curls POPPIN' never stop! And one great example of this is the nighttime hairstyle started by beautiful naturals called "pineappling".

When you stop over-shampooing your hair, it's a MUST that we find ways to make that BELOVED wash day definition last much longer. And guess what boo!! Pineappling is a wonderful technique for preserving those precious curls while you're rolling around in bed (snoring all loud, lol), giving you your best 2nd, 3rd and even 4th day hair.

What is a Natural Hair Pineapple Protective Style

Gotta love that protective pineapple, haa. The natural hair pineapple is a loose, high ponytail on top of your head, that prevents the frizz, knots and flattened curls that come with lying on a pillow. This way, only the sides and back of your hair will be subject to your tossing and turning.

What You'll Need To Pineapple Your Black Natural Hair

The scrunchie or ponytail holder should be loose/tight enough that you loop it around your hair just once if possible. This stops a dent or crease from forming while you sleep. Many naturals prefer to use a satin scrunchie to stop accidental hair breakage and that depressing feeling of tearing hair out with normal hair ties. Ugh...

Many natural ladies also wrap their natural hair pineapple in a satin scarf or bonnet to protect their hair from the knots and dryness that comes with rubbing on a pillow, but if you don’t like to sleep with that on your head you can just sleep on a satin pillowcase.

What If You Have Type 4 Coils

If you have highly-textured type 4 hair, you may find that scrunchies or elastic still leaves an indentation in your luscious natural hair, if that happens then you can pineapple just using a satin scarf and bonnet. This is a tip we learned from NHP that is especially helpful for shorter hair.

How to Pineapple African-American Hair

Now remember, this natural hair pineapple is going to be a very loose ponytail, so we suggest that you start pineappling it right before you lay down for the night. It may slip a little but your hair should still be protected and don't forget your satin pillowcase boo!

  1. BEND all the way forward.
  2. GENTLY gather your hair on top of your head.
  3. SLIDE a scrunchie, elastic or special No-Crease Snap-Off Hair Tie around the base of the ponytail only once (or as loosely as possible) The looser the better to avoid creasing.
  4. *OPTIONAL STEP: You can clip the ends of your pineapple to your head or try NOT TO pull the ends all the way through to create a loose bun.
  5. PUT ON your bonnet or scarf last.

How to Take Down Your Protective Pineapple

The pineapple takedown is as important as putting it up. You can’t simply take your hair out of a pineapple and expect to walk out of the crib, you'll need to perk things up with some light styling.

This is how our Type 4a Editor Amanda takes down her natural hair pineapple.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM9KiMfGlCA

Now don't get me wrong, a natural hair pineapple is definitely not the only way to sleep with curly natural hair. If you've tried it and it didn't work for you, that's OK. We'll be highlighting other methods to protect the luscious, so stay tuned Lovelies!

Water Only Hair Washing for ULTIMATE Black Hair Health!

Please click the Facebook SHARE BUTTON on the upper-left to share  with friends, it helps us keep writing free info!

Water only hair washing for natural hair?

It sounds so "crazy" but it just might work! In fact TONS of long-haired natural beauties claim that it works WONDERS! Water only washing (also known as the WOW method and WOHW method) is the practice of water rinsing (washing) your natural hair frequently with warm/hot water and zero commercial hair products.

This method goes a lot further than cowashing ( washing hair with conditioner ). The purpose of water only hair washing is to allow your natural sebaceous glands to produce the natural occurring sebum, your natural sebum nourishes, moisturizes and protects your hair follicles and scalp. You want to achieve Total Sebum Coverage.

Your natural sebaceous oils also work to help your scalp maintain a healthy pH level and protect it from nasty fungi and infections. Your natural sebaceous oils were created to be the perfect moisturizer and hair conditioner.

The majority of women that have tried the water only hair washing method on a consistent basis and followed the directions specifically, absolutely love washing hair with just water and what has happened to their overall hair health.

water only hair washing method
Check for her Water Only Hair Washing videos below!

As with any new method you try, there will be a transitioning period before your hair adjusts to the WOHW method, and there's also that issue of how long it takes some women to mentally to adjust.

Transitioning can take anywhere from 6-12 weeks, I know that seems like a long of time, and maybe it is for some ladies. But, the key to success is to be “patient” and let nature take its course, raving fans of the WOHW method claim that it will definitely pay off in the end.  [ See article about MSM hair growth before and after proof]

The water only hair washing method of is actually pretty simple.

To begin the process, you will have to clarify your hair and scalp of any previous products and build up with a clarifying shampoo (herbal or regular both will work).

Even though using a commercial clarifying shampoo will work, it's suggested that in the beginning of this method you try for the most natural products ( like apple cider vinegar shampoo ) to clarify your hair and scalp with.

Here are just a few suggestions:

water only hair washing water only washing
water only hair washing

All herbs can be used by themselves or together. Make sure you've thoroughly detangled your natural hair either before or after you have clarified with your wash.

Once you have clarified your hair, pick a style; two strand twists (medium to large size) are highly recommended for naturals who have type 3c-4c hair (in other words, afro textured or kinky, coily, cottony-textured hair).

Putting your hair in two-strand twists will make the transitioning period go much smoother than if you decided to do the water only hair washing on loose natural hair. Flat twists or braids are also good alternatives hairstyle as well.

The following section is a quick jump-start instruction list, that'll break down and explain how to do Water Only Hair Washing:

Quick Jump Start Into The Water Only Hair Washing - WOHW Method!

Step 1: Clarify your natural hair (use any high-quality clarifying shampoo or herb you like) and detangle your hair.

Step 2: Put your hair in medium to large two-strand twists.

Step 3: Massage your scalp daily for a minimum of 5 minutes.

Step 4: Start the rinsing process daily.

Step 5: Pay attention for when you start to recognize a oily or greasy feeling on your hair; usually the first few inches of hair will have the “oily/greasy” natural sebaceous oils and you'll a slight sheen on your fingertips after massaging your scalp.

Step 6: When you start noticing your natural sebaceous oils, start preening the sebum down your hair strands daily.

Step 7: Once your sebum comes in, it’s time to start scritching your scalp daily, so that you don't get build up of sebum sitting on your scalp. These steps need to be done daily or almost daily until you have reached Total Sebum Coverage. Once you have Total Sebum Coverage throughout your natural hair, you can begin making your twists smaller or wear your hair loose.

IF NEEDED, It's strongly recommended that you use a natural oil or butter to supplement your hair.

It's important to avoid to avoid all products that are not plant/food-based, as most commercial products will absolutely strip your hair’s natural sebaceous oils and slow your Water Only Washing transition greatly.

Maintenance on The Water Only Hair Washing Method For Natural Hair

On the Water Only Hair Washing Method you'll need daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. Starting with the first step; CLARIFYING. As your hair's sebum continues to be produced, you'll have to remove the excess sebum from your hair every so many weeks or months; it really depends on how much sebum your scalp produces.

[ Click for article on NHP natural Hair Growth Tips ]

In time you will find out, but, if you produce low-levels of sebum, this means that you can go longer before you have to clarify again in order to remove the excess sebum. If you are a normal to high sebum producer, this means you have to clarify/ remove the excess sebum/debris more often. During the process of removing the excess sebum, you are never stripping your hair bare.

How to know when it's time to remove excess sebum:

1. Your hair has become stickier, oilier than normal.

2. There is a grayish film on your hair.

3. Your hair has begun to break at the ends.

4. Your scalp appears to have a sheet of dandruff (it's not actually dandruff, it's dried sebum) and has become itchy.

These are the most common signs that you need to clarify your hair of excess natural sebaceous oils. It's highly recommended to figure out your hair cycle in terms of; for example: If you have noticed that you can usually go 2 months before clarifying your hair, then instead of waiting 8 weeks to clarify, do it on the 7th week.

That way you won’t have to deal with the issues that come with allowing excess sebum to form on your scalp.

What Do I Use When It’s Time To Clarify?

When you clarify your hair on the Water Only Hair Washing method, it's best to choose an all-natural shampoo or conditioner that won't strip your your hair and scalp of it's naturally produced sebum.

Fortunately for you, there are many different herbal powders that can be whipped into conditioner and that will successfully clean your hair of the excess sebum without completely stripping it. For example... Amla ( Gooseberry), Aretha Powder (Soap Nut), Cassia, Henna, Shikakai Powder etc…

Make sure to look for a natural plant/food-based product to make your conditioner or shampoo from (they prevent total sebum stripping). Many naturals find that a more holistic and natural approach is best with the Water Only Washing method.

Products Used Flexi Rod Hairstyles Tutorial:

Just a quick note, the "Can my relaxed hair be healthy" series turned out to be bittersweet for your homegirl (me). Last week I did a quick roller set.

This week I did a roller set on the large size green flexi rods and thought it turned out super great.

But then, two days later the humid and soggy (hatin') weather and my hair did not get along or play nice with each other and my dang hairgot it's butt kicked and definitely lost the war!

So, let be clear and allow the record to show that it is not just sistas with Black natural hair who have to fight against crazy humidity and rain showers.

Dfeinitely rained on my hair's little parade, lol!

Sistas with straightened and relaxed hair have to be on the lookout as well! I did, however, get to write down in my hair journal exactly what I did to my relaxed hair in my Healthy Relaxed Hair Journal and thank the Lord that I got a few nice hair photos  snapped before the bad weather took me and my flexi rod curls on relaxed hair out of the game for good.

Don't believe the myths. Always understand that relaxed hair can very much be relatively healthy as long as you take proper care of your tresses!

If you liked this flexi rod tutorial showing you how to get amazingly defined flexi rod curls, don't worry, you can get more info like this very easily. Maximum Hydration Method on Type 4 Natural Hair Wash N' Go

Healthy Journey Series | Maximum Hydration Method on Type 4 Hair

Products Used For This Method...

OK my melanista mama, here is the quick-list of the products used in her type 4 hair tutorial to get the final (gorgeous) results...

Problems & Concerns With This MHM Routine

Hey babe, nothing is perfect, and not everything is for everybody. So let's address some of the things SOME Lovelies have an issue with...

  1. Take a lot of time to do (at first...)
  2. Products used are bit pricey (for some folks...)

Addressing problem #1 - OK, we admit it. This type 4 natural hair routine may look like high-maintenance and like hard work but don't worry. The Maximum Hydration Method trains your 4C hair to be and stay moisturized over time.

After a while of this, the time required to make your hair look super-defined will be less and less until you only have to spritz water on it.

In fact. The more you keep your hair moisturized and defined the juicier your hair becomes. So even if it looks dry the first time around keep doing it, your hair will get used to being moisturized and defined.

Addressing Problem #2 - Products Too Expensive? Well, it really depends on who you are, how important the final results are to you and how bad you want the POPPINGEST OF CURLS.

Some women feel the Kinky Curly natural hair products are so expensive and are scared off by the price tag and the same can be said for Camille Rose's hair helpers. At the same time though, other Lovelies are snatching these products up like hot cakes.

Who am I to say? It's your call. By the way, before ending this article I want to post another very video that shows many details about the Maximum Hydration Method on type 4 hair as well. Check it out below!

Reader Comments on This Method...

Here's an interesting comment from another Type-4 haired natural who has her own technique... Here's what Michelle had to say:

My hair is just like hers and gets as much definition, if not more, with some Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex conditioner, a little coconut or olive oil, and some eco styler gel on wash days. I’m glad she found what works for her though...

- Michelle T.

I honestly did not know doing a wash n Go on 4C Hair was possible. I’m a believer now 😍 I can’t wait to incorporate this into my hair routine!

How To Regrow Your Hairline and Edges

1. RELEASE TENSION: Newbies make the mistake of always wearing their natural tresses in a puff. Usually pulled back a tight elastic band, this is a major no-no. After a while, it starts to tug and pull at your edges, making them fragile and thin. Regular ponytail wearers should also take heed. Don’t wear a ponytail style for longer than two days. Let your hair breathe.

2. STOP INFLAMMATION: Inflammation is the culprit for most hair loss. The scalp may be damaged or irritated, causing the edges to thin and fall out. If you have a sensitive scalp plagued by psoriasis or dermatitis, sometimes oils can make it worse. Try switching to pure vegetable glycerin for your edge and scalp remedy. Those who can use oils should try massaging Jamaican black castor oil onto the area everyday.

3. LEAVE OUT YOUR EDGES IN PROTECTIVE STYLES: Make a special request to your stylist to leave out your edges when getting a faux curly style to ensure that they will not be pulled to the high heavens for six to eight weeks. When wearing braids, tell your braider that your edges should be braided securely but NOT tight.

4. USE ROSEMARY & THYME ESSENTIAL OIL (SOOTHING FOR DRY EDGES): These are both anti-inflammatory and soothing when added to carrier oils like olive, sesame and castor. If the herby scent is a bit much for you, add several drops of grapefruit or lemon essential oil for a yummier aroma. Rosemary & thyme both encourage growth and give the slightest tingling sensation that increases blood circulation to your edges.

Also, how to slay your edges with little-known tricks...

How to Regrow Your Hairline Edges

Her's what some in the medical community has to say about how to regrow your hairline and how to regrow edges....

“The hair around the hairline is finer and more fragile than the hair strands throughout the rest of the scalp,” explains trichologist (hair & scalp specialist) Kari Williams, who works with Brandy (Ray Jay's big sister), Meagan Good, and Hollywood actress Ava DuVernay (of "When they see us" and more), as well as Willow Smith.

When it comes to knowing how to regrow your natural hair edge and baby hair she knows her stuff... the celebrated scalp specialist goes on to say...

“Additionally, the hairs around the hairline are manipulated, brushed, and pulled more than the other hairs, which increases their fragility.”

How To Regrow Edges On Natural Hairlines Fast

You know the expression you are what you eat. External changes can come from your diet, the vitamins you consume, and changes that happen internally, like hormones. Maldonado recommends consuming over-the-counter vitamins, saying, "you will see a difference in your hairline after about three months of taking hair-regrowth supplements." He adds, "but remember, this difference is more of a filler and helps to strengthen the hair, and help it grow faster." If you're looking for major changes in the thickness of your hairline, he says, "the best way to regrow it is by taking supplements or a certain medication prescribed by your doctor."

Whether or not you're experiencing changes in your hair, a daily multi-vitamin should be part of your regular regimen anyways, as well as an overall healthy diet full of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and plenty of water. As for additional supplements, Nutroful and Viviscal are among Madonado's favorites, as they are both natural daily supplements.

Castor Oil Helps Big Time With Edges

We all know about the benefits of Jamaican Black Castor Oil for growing out your hairline and boosting regrowth of stubborn, fading edges...

Castor oil has many uses, the raw one, unrefined, unmixed etc. is a one stop shop. But the raw castor oil smells way better than the Original Jamaica Black castor oil. I remember trying the original Jamaican black castor oil and praying for the bottle to finish. It’s hard to be in a relationship when your hair smells funky every night, so it was such a relief when I found out the Jamaican Black castor oil comes in different scents.  The one I am currently using on my hair line is the one that’s mixed with coconut. What a relief!!!

The Jamaican Black Caster oil is great for hair growth and hairline, trust me, I’m using it and I CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE. It’s been a month now and I’m happy with the product. Its yellow brow, not good for white sheets and pillows so make sure you put it on in the morning and later in the evening sleep with a conditioning silk cap to prevent your hair product from staining your white sheets.

I'd recommend this Jamaican Black castor oil only because I see a little difference and because its the only thing I’ve tried (on its own) that’s worked.

Due to its Riconeleic acid, a special fatty acid found in the hair growth oil, and the presence of Vitamin E, absorption of this edge growth tag-team can increase your white blood cell count (aka lymphocytes) and speed up the toxin removal process to promote baby hair edges healing.

To make your hair growth JBCO even more powerful, you can try mixing several lighter oils with JBCO to help in regrowing your thinning edges.

Finding a mix of oils that work best for your natural hair will take a bit of experimentation, but mixing one teaspoon of the tried-and-true oils such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, and extra virgin olive oil is a good place to start.

Do Protective Styles Protect & Regrow Your Edges??? Many Don't...

Restrictive styling restricts your hairline regrowth goals. If you're a braid lover, make sure to take a four-week break between protective styles to give your hair a rest.

Use The Right Vitamins For Regrowing Edges

Why not use Vitamin D and invest in Biotin? Make sure to thoroughly read reviews for quality vitamins before buying.

Adam Friedman, a program director at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences, is on the same page as Romanowski. "While it does have antimicrobial properties which may be useful in terms of fighting off bacterial or fungal overgrowth on the scalp that can lead to hair-damaging inflammation, there is zero evidence [showing] it is helpful for hair growth," he says, adding that some people can actually be allergic to castor oil and experience inflammation, ultimately doing more damage than good to the scalp. "To propose that castor oil accelerates hair growth, a tightly regulated process (one centimeter per month) for which FDA approved medications for hair loss do not impact, is ridiculous," he states.

Well, there you have it, folks. Without legitimate clinical evidence, there's no way of telling whether castor oil is the hair-care cure-all some people claim it is. That being said, as long as you consult your doctor first, there should be no problem with you experimenting with it on your own to see how and if it works for you. At the end of the day, we're not calling anyone a liar, but facts are facts, so until there's more science-backed information on the subject, it's best to take any glowing testimonials with a grain of salt.

4 Effective Natural Hair Remedies For Dry Hair

Image result for How To Moisturize DRY Natural Hair That Lasts For DAYS! RETAIN MOISTURE!

Here's the deal.... Brittle, dry hair not only looks awful.  It feels rough to touch and is prone to extreme breakage.  In simple terms, it can have you lookin' busted and dusted. If your hair isn’t as soft and manageable as it could be or should be, then you might find your answers here, because you'll be able to try some smart and proven natural hair remedies for dry hair

These remedies use common foods you can find in your kitchen, items you probably already have in your refrigerator.  Why suffer another moment with dry hair?  Get to mixing!

Some natural hair remedies for dry hair include using natural oils, like cold-pressed olive oil, or applying a deep conditioner that uses moisturizing ingredients like egg yolks and avocado.  You will only know how your curls and coils will best respond to natural hair remedies for dry hair by trying them out.  Remember, some remedies will get results, while others might not be best for your hair.  Trial and error.  That is what you can expect.  If such concoctions don’t work, at least you didn’t have to pay much for the ingredients to these natural hair remedies for dry hair.

But before you go testing natural hair remedies for dry hair, be sure you are not drying your hair by frequent heat styling, such as by using a blow dryer.

Avoiding Dry Hair

Heat styling can cause a lot of damage to natural hair.  Split ends, breakage, burnt hair and, of course, dry hair are just a few of the consequences.

Image result for How To Moisturize DRY Natural Hair That Lasts For DAYS! RETAIN MOISTURE!

When you blow dry, flat iron, curl or apply any other form of direct heat to natural hair, you are applying rapid heat to your hair shaft, which zaps it of moisture.  Just one session of too much heat can permanently straighten your hair.

But don’t think you have to see un-shrinkable coils right after you straighten.  Heat damage builds over time, gradually loosening your curl pattern.

If you must use direct heat, deep condition prior to blow drying, flat ironing, etc.  Also, protect the hair with a setting lotion or serum.

Natural Hair Remedies For Dry Hair

Here are 4 natural hair remedies for dry hair.  Personally, I’m a fan of using just a few ingredients.  I don’t have any scientific reason for this preference except that I want to see if an ingredient responds well to my natural hair.  How can I tell what works best if I’m using a dozen different ingredients?  So, the natural hair remedies for dry hair that I will share will be simple and use ingredients that are readily available.

Avocado Conditioner

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Combine the avocado and coconut milk in a bowl.
  2. Heat the mixture in the microwave for about 45 seconds.
  3. Stir mixture.
  4. Test temperature.  Allow to cool if it is too hot to touch.
  5. Massage the conditioner into your natural hair.
  6. Cover your hair with a plastic hair cap a quality towel for 15 minutes.
  7. Rinse.
  8. Wash hair.

Egg Conditioner

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon olive oil
  • 3/4 cup filtered, warm water
  1. Beat egg yolk until thick.
  2. Add oil and beat the mixture.
  3. Slowly add water and continue to beat thoroughly.
  4. Massage the conditioner into your natural hair and allow to sit for a few minutes.
  5. Rinse thoroughly.

Mayo Deep Conditioner (a personal favorite!)

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Combine mixed ingredients on dry hair.  (If your hair is wet, this will not work as well.  I’ve tried it, and I know!)
  2. Saturate your natural hair with the mixture.
  3. Place a plastic cap on your natural hair for about 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse.
  5. Wash hair as usual.

Hot Olive Oil Treatment

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Place ingredients in a saucepan and heat on low flame, stirring continuously.
  2. Once oil warms slightly, apply it to your hair and scalp.
  3. Cover hair with a plastic cap for about 15 minutes.
  4. Wash hair as usual.

HOW DO I KEEP MY FLAT IRONED HAIR FROM BECOMING SO GREASY?

Image result for black woman with weave

ASK OMG QUESTION: “I’ve been wearing my hair pressed straight for the winter. I love the way it looks but it gets greasy so fast. What can I do to get my flat ironed hair to last longer between washes?” - Crystal

OMG ANSWER: Flat Iron Without Getting Too Greasy - Easy!

Heeeeyyyy Crystal! OK hun, let's get to the goods. Aint no doubt that a good press out can make your day, so it’s understandable that you want it to last as long as possible.

Whether or not you have a naturally oily scalp, to get your press out to last longer, you will need to cut back on the oils that you put in your hair with everything from your shampoos all the way to your Black hair styling products.

Wearing your curly hair straight means being smart with your products and switching out some of your normal go-to's for products that work better for straight hair.

[ARTICLE: Getting SILKY Straight Natural Hair Without Perm!]

Starting Out Clean and Moisturized a MUST...

You’ll need clean and moisturized hair to keep your press out as straight as possible but you don’t want hair that is loaded with heavy oils and butters like castor oil or shea butter like you would when you wear your hair kinky-curly.

What you wanna do is start with a good oil-based shampoo that will help to keep your scalp as close as possible to its natural pH balance but won’t strip your curls.

Rahua Shampoo, Redken Diamond Oil Shampoo, Eden Body Works Peppermint Tea Tree Shampoo, EO French Lavender Shampoo or Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Nourishing Shampoo are good choices that will clean your hair without over stripping it.

This is important because making sure your scalp is balanced means that it won’t need to go into excessive oil production overdrive because of being stripped.

How To: Fix/Make Your Flat Ironed Hair Last Longer

A Light Rinse Out Conditioner is Key

So look....You're gonna want to use a light rinse out conditioner and leave-in that is oil and/or silicone based to seal in moisture but won’t weigh your hair down and leave a streaky, residue mess on your flat iron and hair.

Desert Essence Lemon Tea Tree Conditioner for Oily Hair, Rahua Conditioner, Living Proof No Frizz Conditioner, Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner, Living Proof No Frizz Leave-In Conditioner, Carol’s Daughter Leave-In Conditioner and Yarok Feed Your Ends Leave-In Conditioner and Heat Protectant are all great picks.

The silicone and oils will help to block out moisture to keep your hair straighter longer and the light oil keeps your strands supple. Oils like argan and cold-pressed jojoba oils are just as effective as heavier oils but finish light and airy on your hair, allowing for your strands to have better “flow” in the wind.

Avoid getting conditioner on your scalp to keep it clean and free of residue which can cause your scalp to over-produce oil later in the week.

Use a Heat Protectant - Very Important

You’ll need a heat protectant when you blow dry and use your flat iron.

Using something light like foam or a spritz is the best option but creams are also great as long they are going on light like Drybar Hot Toddy Heat Protector Frizz Fighter. flat ironed natural hair

Phyto Phytokératine Repairing Thermal Protectant Spray has ceramides which seals your hair’s cuticle and hyaluronic acid which hydrates your hair and is a great choice for fine or color-tread or for those who want the top of the line in heat protection.

Aussie Hair Insurance Heat Protecting Shine Spray is a very affordable light mist that won’t build up on your hair. Nexxus Pro-Mend Heat Protexx Heat Protection Styling Spray is a really great option for heat styling since in addition to heat protection it contains polymers that stick to your hair and each other which temporarily binds your ends together if you are battling split ends.

Ever Tried DRY Shampoo? Maybe You Should...

In-between washes, dry shampoo can save your scalp and your hair if you feel like you need to refresh.

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk, Dove Refresh+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo and Bumble and Bumble A Tint of Brown Hair Powder (which also covers greys) are three of the best dry shampoos you can use to keep your straight hair fresh and clean.

They extend your shampoos by soaking up excess scalp oil and smell great and all have dry finishes.

How To Spot FAKE Satin From Beauty Supply Stores!

I aint gon' hold you up sis, some of these beauty supply stores are straight upSCAN-DA-LOUS!! You hear me!?!?

PRO TIP: Wash Satin WEEKLY To Avoid Skin & Hair Problems

Look... 4c, 3b, 2c, 4b and whatever else textures ALL fall under this rule, still though, this is extremely important for type 4 naturals because we usually use thicker oils and butters on our hair and as a result we saturate or satin pillowcases, scarves, and natural hair bonnets with these products. So listen love....

It may sound simple, but many don't do this... You should wash your satins every week because you do not want old products transferring to your freshly washed hair and face causing pore clogging on your face and scalp.

Clogged scalps are hair-breakage factories and if these products keep getting on your face this will eventually cause acne and stubborn acne and nasty blemishes.

I don't know about you...

But I'm too cute for AWLLATT (Translation: "all of that", for the suburbanites among us), LOL!!!

So let's get to the best way to protect your satins and get more use out of them by washing them the right way...

How To Wash Satin Bonnets, Pillowcases & More...

Satin has a smooth feel that makes it appealing for many items from bedsheets to garments. It ranges in durability as well as cleaning options.

The smart natural hair sistas out there need to know that satin has special needs when cleaning, here's what you need to do...

  • Wash by hand or on the delicate cycle ONLY to protect your satin.
  • Use cold water along with a gentle detergent, like Woolite DELICATE CARE liquid. When hand-washing, let the satin soak in sudsy water for about 3 to 5 minutes, then gently squeeze the suds through the fabric.
  • Rinse thoroughly with cool water and NEVER wring or twist your satin clothing because it can easily lose its shape.
  • Don''t put your delicate satin items in a dryer PLEAAASE!!! Instead, lay the item flat on a clean, dry towel, and roll the towel, pizza-roll style, and apply pressure to squeeze out excess water.
  • Unroll, remove item and lay flat on another clean, dry towel to finish air drying, away from sun or excess heat. Satin items should be ironed on a medium/light setting, with no steam. Iron from the inside-out with quick strokes, never allowing the iron to linger too long on any one spot.

Top 10 Highest-Rated Shea Butters

If you've been in the natural hair community for any amount of time, it will come as no surprise to you that Shea Butter is one of the most beloved and useful natural hair products on the planet.

So I'd be an idiot not to give you the top 10 highest rated shea butters online.

Shea Butter provides moisture to dry or damaged hair from the roots to the very tips, repairs and protects your hair against weather damage, dryness and brittleness. It also absorbs quickly and completely into the scalp to rehydrate without clogging your pores. It is especially helpful for processed and heat-treated hair. It's a go-to treatment for dry scalp problems and it brings life and luster to damaged hair.

I personally have used it for years and years and years on my skin (I was born in 1977). And believe me, my skin shows great results now from years of keeping my face moisturized every morning. Shea Butter is like food for the skin containing Vitamins A, E and F. These vitamins fight against wrinkles and facial lines.

Here are the shea butters with nothing less than 4 Star ratings...

Has Coconut Oil Ruined My Hair? How To Use Coconut Oil For Natural Hair

If you've ever felt like "coconut oil ruined my hair", you're not alone sis...

Let's keep it trill ladies. Errrrthang aint for errrbody. And you're gonna find that even though certain hair growth oils do seem to be universally beneficial for almost every type of hair, honeeeey, coconut oil isn’t always one of them (unless you mix with honey, I'll explain more about that below).

coconut oil ruined my hair
coconut oil ruined my hair - Try Ghee

You tell me... Why is authentic 100% castor oil an age-old beauty secret for increasing hair growth while coconut oil is damaging many heads of hair in the natural hair community?

The wildest thing is that not everyone feels like coconut oil ruins their hair...

Many melanin mavens are using coconut oil on their hair and eyelashes and have seen amazing results, without a doubt.

So why should SOME natural-hair women avoid using coconut oil on their tresses? And how do you know if coconut oil bad is for your hair or not??

What Decides If YOU Get Coconut Oil Benefits for Hair?

It's pretty clear that coconut oil for black hair gets mixed results, some naturals swear by it. Others say coconut oil is the dang devil and might try to fight you if you put that stuff next to their luscious locs, HA!

So why exactly is this happening? Besides the fact that no one oil is going to work for everyone, there is more involved. For instance, do you have protein build-up?

Coconut oil works like a charm for protein retention. So if your hair suffers from lack of protein, coconut oil is a great product for you!

However, if your hair has protein build-up, repeated use of coconut oil will jack your hair up even worse. Girrrl, your hair is gonna be snap cracklin' and poppin' more than Rice Krispies Treats.

See... since coconut oil helps stop the loss of protein in your hair, if your hair already has enough protein and doesn’t need this extra "help" then it can cause your hair to be dry, brittle, and break off.

So if this is happening to you it's likely that your hair has enough protein.

[READ ARTICLE: 5 Reasons to "STOP Using Coconut Oil and Shea Butter"!]

The Protein Problem - Coconut Oil for Natural Hair

Protein build-up also the reason many natural hair sistas doesn’t like protein treatments or conditioners and creams with proteins in it.

Many call it being “protein sensitive” but it's really that you just have enough protein in your hair and don't need any extra.

Soooo, how do you know if you have protein build-up or not???

Well, if your hair is dry and fragile even AFTER you’ve moisturized it (deep conditioning, hot oil treatments, loc method) then chances are you have protein build up. But there’s a way to reverse it! First, check all of your products to be sure they do not have protein in them. Secondly, focus on keeping your hair moisturized with the right products.

For instance, you can use cold-pressed aloe vera for hair or a leave-in conditioner you like then seal in the moisture with sweet almond oil (I don't like the smell of A.O. so I prefer unscented...).

You will notice the elasticity in your hair come back and moisture retention pick up.

Has Coconut Oil Ruined My Hair? [Type 4 Natural]

Is Coconut Oil Bad For Type 4 Natural Hair Or Is It Still A Holy Grail?

So... Does Coconut Oil Ruin Natural Hair? Yes or No?

It truly does depend.

And I know, some feel 100% sure that "coconut oil ruined my hair" but think about things this way...

There are so many different textures of natural hair and coconut oil is not ruining everyone's hair. I can tell you this though...

Lovelies with looser natural hair textures and/or oilier hair may be lacking protein, many can even use coconut oil for hair loss prevention or try Moroccan Oil and see what it does for your hair.

For these particular natural hair Black women, protein is very necessary, and it may be due to their porosity-level. Let's not get it twisted...

On the other hand, Lovelies with coarse natural hair or already super dry hair probably aren't struggling with low protein at all, so coconut oil may lead to more brittle hair problems and natural hair loss. These naturalistas may benefit more from other types of oil like pure organic-grade marula oil and, of course, argan oil for hair and skin.

PRO TIP: How to Use Coconut Oil For Hair With OTHER Ingredients

If you feel like "coconut oil ruined my hair", here's what you can do...

When coconut oil for natural hair growth is combined with other Black hair growth oils and ingredients, not only is less coconut oil coming in contact with your hair to cause damage, but the combinations of healthful and helpful fatty acids can have different and POSITIVE effects instead of damaging your hair and making it brittle and ready-to-break.

For instance, coconut oil doesn’t seem to make hair dry or brittle when combined with the monounsaturated fatty acids from pure virgin olive oil or when mixed with argan or marula oil (both great for natural Black hair).

Pure honey also seems to make coconut oil even more beneficial for natural type 4 hair and the simple sugars in honey can nourish your kinky hair and make it naturally smooth and frizz-free.

So it's smart for you to patch test these different hair oil combos and you may just find the secret concoction that will have you looking like a natural hair model strutting your stuff down the catwalk.

And you won't say that coconut oil ruined my hair ever again! Although some natural will always feel like coconut oil AND EVEN SHEA BUTTER is the devil, lol.

She used vegetable glycerin because it is a natural humectant, which means it makes your hair strands absorb moisture from the environment more easily.

She also combined Uncle Funkies Shining Star Skin, Hair & Scalp Elixir which has jojoba oil with virgin coconut oil to go ahead and seal in all that hair health inducing moisture.

And as always she used her special hair growth oil, we have a great recipe you can use here:

The first style she did is one called the "Nubian Bun" and it is SUUUUUPER CUTE! If any of y'all have ever used the Curls passion fruit curl control paste like she did with this style, please DM me on our Instagram and tell me if the smell is as amazing as it should be for ANYTHING with passionfruit in it.

That is one of my FAVORITE fruits smells EVVAAAAAR! Anyway, back to the styles…

Oh, BTW it seems her hair growth routine is definitely working because her hair is thick and luscious.

Protective Styles 2-through-4 Work Off French-Braids

The 2nd style she did was a ROYAL-LOOKING, cute and trendy French-braid style.

The 3rd style is used the French-Braid natural hairstyle and made it more formal and business-ready. It looks soooooo moist and gorgeous OMG!

The 4th style is one that I didn't see coming and have never thought to do… She did some neat little bottom buns in the back after undoing the ends of the French-braids, I think you'll like it. I did, but probably not on myself, I'd definitely put this and a teen-to-early 20s girl though!

How To Do Havana Twists - What Hair to Use for Havana Twist Tutorial

You want to know how to do Havana Twists? Great, you'll find out how to do exactly that right now as well as learn what hair to use for Havana twists. When you look in any popular black natural hair products blog that shows the best protective braid hairstyles you'll likely see Havana style twists.

The problem is that many women don't know how to install them. Also, there are a few DOs and DON'Ts that we'll discuss on maintaining twists styles and then you can see the 3-part video special from Breanna Rutter on how to do it. She does an excellent job of giving a clear explanation and demonstration, she teaches you the right way to borrow hair, install invisible roots and much more. Much better than many other how-to-do videos out there.

The DOs & Don'ts Of Maintaining Havana Twists

What You Should Do...

Do #1 - Keep your twists moisturized. We love to recommend a special moisturizing cocktail using Shea Moisture Extra-Moisture Detangler mixed with Shea Moisture Damage Repair Hair & Scalp Serum and water, it works amazingly to keep your twists perfectly moisturized. Just mix it all in a spray bottle and spritz the mixture on your twists and scalp as needed.

Do #2 - Keep your scalp free of product buildup. Since Havana twists are fairly thick, you'll have more than enough room in between each twist to clean your scalp. We recommend that you use Shea Moisture Purification Masque to promote a truly clean and healthy scalp. It works great because you can apply the masque right onto your scalp to lift up any product buildup. After you rinse your scalp and Havana twists, be absolutely sure that the twists fully air dry in order to prevent odor, mold or mildew from forming in your Havana twists hair extensions (some women actually prefer to use Marley twists hair, it's your decision).

Do #3 - Be gentle when styling your Havana twists. Many women wear their Havana twists in a high bun on top of their heads, although it's a really chic and cute style, it creates a lot of pressure. The roots of each Havana twist then becomes "overdirected" meaning that this style of wearing them bends your hair root in a direction it doesn't naturally grow in which could cause your individual hairs to literally be pulled out of the hair follicle and lead to hair damage and hair loss. And let's be honest, all of the natural hair growth products in the world won't stop breakage against harmful manual manipulation. If you have your heart set on wearing a topknot, do so for short periods of time and be sure to let your twists down each night before you go to bed.

Don't Do These Things...

Don't #1 - Put too much pressure around your edges. This is a big NO-NO. Most women naturally have 'baby hair' around the edges that is a little shorter, much more fragile and the edges become hard to regrow. Havana twists are much larger in size, thus, there is a greater chance of them being too heavy around your hairline and causing breakage. To prevent breakage, uninstall the twists every two weeks and have to redo them. This not only keeps your twists looking fresh, but it's also a way for you to keep close tabs on your fragile edges.

Don't #2 - Leave Havana twists in too long. Braids hairstyles like this shouldn't be left in too long, 6 weeks is the maximum that is recommend. Leaving them in any longer than that could compromise the health of your own hair and may even lead to scalp infection from lack of thorough cleansing of your scalp.

Don't #3 - Get your Havana twists done too tight. Most breakage and traction alopecia is caused by hairstyles that are way too tight. When you're applying your moisturizing spray, your natural hair will naturally expand and swell up. Synthetic hair does not expand so if the twist is too tight but your hair wants to expand inside of that twist, your hair becomes more susceptible to breakage.
