Top 10 Highest-Rated Shea Butters
If you've been in the natural hair community for any amount of time, it will come as no surprise to you that Shea Butter is one of the most beloved and useful natural hair products on the planet.
So I'd be an idiot not to give you the top 10 highest rated shea butters online.
Shea Butter provides moisture to dry or damaged hair from the roots to the very tips, repairs and protects your hair against weather damage, dryness and brittleness. It also absorbs quickly and completely into the scalp to rehydrate without clogging your pores. It is especially helpful for processed and heat-treated hair. It's a go-to treatment for dry scalp problems and it brings life and luster to damaged hair.
I personally have used it for years and years and years on my skin (I was born in 1977). And believe me, my skin shows great results now from years of keeping my face moisturized every morning. Shea Butter is like food for the skin containing Vitamins A, E and F. These vitamins fight against wrinkles and facial lines.

Curl Defining Products Reviews From Other Naturals
I'm less than 24 hours natural (just got my relaxed ends cut today) and this is the first product I've used. Let me say, prior to putting this in hair my curl definition was non-existent. This stuff tightened my curl pattern, and made my hair incredibly soft, and moisturized. I can't stop touching it.
I'm going to have to pick up some more, because I have never had a natural hair product work AND be soaffordable. I love my natural hair but with this stuff i love it even more...TRY IT!
2. Bio Infusion Curl Creme
This curl pomade is the BOMB. Works great on dry hair. The curl creme is good but it has a LOUD fragrance... It's not as noticeable the next day. If you have thin hair you may want avoid this product. Bio infusion curl creme is paraben and sulfate free (SEE THIS ARTICLE toavoid the most dangerous product ingredients). You don't have to use a lot of the product to get the defined curl look that you want. You get a good bang for your buck with this one.
My hair requires a lot of moisture, and it's texture ranges from silky curls to frizz. I put the Darcy Botanical Sweet Coco Bean Curl Smoothing Cream product on my wet hair and let it dry naturally. My hair feels healthier and the curls are more pronounced. I also used a botanical spray gel for curly hair, to tame the frizzy sections and to have a more manageable style. I'm pleased with this product- and I like the vanilla bean smell, and would definitely purchase again!
I bought this at Target I have used the co-wash and leave in conditioner which both are great. Cantu's products are on the low end for natural hair care and it delivers what it promises. I have used Miss Jessie's in the past which is ridiculously priced and doesn't curl my hair like this. I do not even have to use gel for the style to stay I love it. I have regular black folk hair with a little water, leave in conditioner and this product it curls just fine. I have also used Carols daughter Healthy Hair Butter which also brings out the curl pattern but I have to use a little gel with that to maintain the curls. Use what works on your hair do not go broke trying to find a natural hair care product to give your hair curls that it was not created to have. Enjoy the texture God gave you and be blessed.
Yes, I like this product and it has become by base product from which others are judged. It is trusted and never let's me down. I even achieved my first wash and go with this product on 4b/c hair. It produced loose coily curls. Another good product for Wash and Go is the As I Am Naturally line and it produces a tighter coil and a different Wash and Go look.
My daughter who has more 4c than b does not achieve a wash and go with this product. Perhaps her hair needs more moisturizing since she is swimming everyday this summer, before she can achieve a wash and go with this product.
The product is primarily used to keep my ends and overall hair moisturized. On my hair it produces a soft hold. I am still very heavy handed using products so it is also oily to the touch, but that should change as I master the use of styling products.
Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is an EXCELLENT creme hair dress and conditioner--think Vitapointe Creme Daily Hairdress, 7 Ounce or Liv Creme Hairdressing and Conditioner kicked up a dozen notches just for curls. No mineral oil, petroleum and beeswax--Shea, coconut , mango, aloe silk protein instead!
This product is best used just as you would a creme hairdressing. I use this in the same may my mother used Liv on my hair when I was little for braids/braid-outs, finger curls, twist/twist-outs and smoothing ponytails. It works great as a layer on wet hair. Use it after your leave-in conditioner and before your sealing oil. You only need a tiny bit for shine, moisture and de-frizzing . I tap my finger lightly into the product for each braid, twist etc. and take a little more only if I need it.
Do not expect hold from this product! I DO NOT use it to set my "wash and go". Curl Enhancing Smoothie is not intended to perform like an Eco Styler Gel or Kinky Curly Curling Custard. On the other hand, because the product hydrates curls, it is great for finishing your "wash and go" or "rod set" after it dries. It's also great for refreshing second day hair because it helps curls to spring back and smooths frizz.
My best advice for using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is use it to do what it's supposed to do.
So many naturals tell us that Kinky-Curly Curling Custard is a tough natural hair product to master. It’s full of nourishing botanicals like agave nectar extract, aloe vera juice and marshmallow, and has a very slippery and goopy texture. A little goes a long way, as it instantly clumps and smoothes your coils. Expect extremely shiny and springy coils. Although it works best on very tight, coarse coils in the “4” category, it might pack too much of a punch for loose curls.
Overall, ladies love this product for natural hair! It works great on hair that is 4a-4c and this natural hair product helps to define your curls and coils beautifully. We've noticed that some of the curly hair product reviewers are saying that this Kinky-Curly Curling Custard does not work for their 4-something type hair. The real problem is that some people don't truly understand their hair type. 4a type hair has S shaped strands with small yet a defined curl pattern and 4b hair generally has Z-shaped strands with no defined curl or coil pattern.
Remember that this product is not a chemical curl enhancer or a hair relaxer, therefore it won't give 4b hair a curl pattern when it doesn't already have one. Our suggestion to all those unsure of your natural hair type is to wash all products/oils/gels out of your hair with a clarifying shampoo then condition, rinse and air dry your hair. If you do not have defined curls or coils and your hair looks like a lovely soft fluffy cloud then you have gorgeous 4b hair. If you have 4b hair don't bother buying this product for Wash-n-Gos. Instead use it for twist-outs or braids-outs for similar results.
Be warned.... Some believe that regular Wash-n-Gos are unhealthy for type 4 hair anyway - the reason being the tangling that comes from 4a/b hair's super shrinkage may lead to breakage. It's recommended that all hair in the type 4 range be kept moist and stretched with ends protected at all times to keep breakage and tangling at a minimum. Many type 4 naturalistas are able to retain 6" of hair growth a year following this rule so give it a try.
Oh and KCCC works really great when you pair it with a superior leave in conditioner like Kinky-Curly Knot Today or Sensories Smooth Passionflower and Aloe leave in. Other curly hair products that are worth mentioning are Deva curl products for curly hair, we will have a few reviews on their best curl defining products very soon so subscribe to BlackHairOMG today for future updates!
You may be in love the crochet-braids look, but just don't have the time, energy or patience to put them into your own hair. Well there is a solution for natural who don't have the time for braid installation.
You can make a crochet wig instead, which you will definitely be able to get done much, much faster than crochet braids!
Learn How to Make a Crochet Wig & Style On Em'!
If you’re the type of natural-haired woman who always gets the itch to change your hairstyles because you get bored of the same old same hairstyles quickly, the crochet wig will be a nice go-to option to help you switch your style up a bit and strut your stuff on the red carpet of life.
You can remove the wig on a daily basis or whenever you choose. Wigs give you the ability to care for your hair better as well, because there is nothing adding a barrier when you need to cleanse or moisturize your real hair. In this way, you'll be able to continue nourishing your hair with the best hair products and keep it healthy.
There is a big difference with this method versus doing crotchet braid. With crotchet braids, your hair is curled prior to you installing it on the wig. If you ever had to curl your extension hair using perm rods before you know the potential dangers of using boiling hot water. You have to be extremely careful in order not to burn yourself.
No worries using this crotchet wig technique, you will not have to be on high alert for this. The cool thing is, once you have set all the hair that you are going to use you can get all of your hair curled in one easy step. Simply place all of the hair in a bowl of boiling hot water, pat dry with a towel as you normally would to remove excess water and remove from the rod and crochet away.
When you crochet the hair onto the wig it undoubtedly will go a whole lot faster, because you can easily see what you are doing. Whereas when you are doing extensions, areas like the back of your head will be very time-consuming.

You know whaaaaaaat??? Some of y'all are A MESS, LOL!
Soooo here's the deal... My girl Whitney A.K.A. "Naptural85" gave an amazing recipe for a DIY shampoo made from Alaffia - Authentic African Black Soap that she says is the "most moisturizing shampoo" she has EVER used.
And if Whitney says that, that's saying a whooooole lot, the girl aint no joke, she has Literally tested 100's and 100's of hair products on camera.
So then, riddle me this batman.... Why some of the ladies in the comment section start dragging Whitney because she said the recipe was "simple"??? LOL! (light-heartedly draggin' though... No super-mean stuff thankfully...)
For instance, check out this comment from Brianna Evans about the claim that the recipe is easy:
"I promise you guys it's super easy" ? *then uses 30 different expensive essential oils
Brianna betta get up off my girl! And got 260 dang "LIKES" on her sarcastic-behind-comment haa!
Others were saying that they aint got enough money to be buying ALL THESE INGREDIENTS.
Now I'll admit that it's not the cheapest recipe, she used 10 ingredients besides water. BUT THE RECIPE IS BOMB! Let that sista be great and teach y'all to be great too, haaa!
The DIY shampoo recipe incorporates the medicinal power of Alaffia African Black Soap, along with 9 essential oils & nutrients known to get your hair regenerating by regulating sebum production, and heal scalp damage!
Here's the complete list of ingredients for Whitney's Super-Moisturizing, hair growth shampoo:

There are recipes for beauty regimens that contain everything from egg shells to rice water, and their uses have been passed down for generations among many cultures. One deliciously beneficial ingredient is the Paw-Paw fruit, also known as Papaya.
The papaya contains a large amount of Vitamin C, which is key for its restorative and healing properties. It also contains about 224% of your daily needs of vitamins and mineral. The papaya enzyme called papain breaks down proteins, fats and carbohydrates and works to prevent stomach disorders, diabetes, colorectal cancers, intestinal parasite infections, nerve pains and even elephantoid growths.
Carpaine is another chemical that the papaya has that kills off certain parasite infections. Papaya also has a host of other vitamins, acids, enzymes and minerals such as magnesium, copper, fiber, folic acid, vitamins E, A, B6, B1, beta carotene, and riboflavin. The chemical compounds in papaya are so effective that many people take the papaya enzymes in pill form.
The folic acid that papaya contains, as well as the Vitamin C improve circulation blood circulation throughout your scalp. The result of this is that your scalp is fed the nutrients and minerals that are needed to encourage healthy hair growth and stimulate your ever-important sebaceous glands. The sebum that is produced nourishes, conditions and protects the scalp, providing a healthy environment for new growth to flourish.
How To Use Papaya Topically
Blend 1 cup of papaya with 1 cup carrier oil and ½ cup Aloe Vera juice. Apply this mixture to your scalp and let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
Hair Growth Isn't The Only Reason To Get Your Paws on Some Paw-Paw!
Papaya is used for getting rid of nasty dandruff too. Because papaya contains so much Vitamin C and A, it aids in the removal of dead skin cells, encourages healthy cell regeneration and nourishes your hair shaft. If you’re fighting against that dirty-lookin' dandruff, papaya could be the solution to your problems.
Papaya seeds have complex anti-fungal properties that help ward off and prevent dandruff. You can either use papaya seed oil, or you can blend the papaya seeds together with a good carrier oil to make a paste, apply it to the scalp and rinse out.
Product Build Up BE DARNED!
Product build-up and dead scalp skin are two major problems associated with stagnant hair growth. When the pores of your scalp are clogged, girrrrrrl, you are beggin' for trouble. they don’t get the nutrients and moisture that is needed to produce sebum. This can cause hair fall,
In that condition, your scalp doesn't get the nutrients and moisture that is needed to make hair-health promoting sebum. This can cause hair fall, dandruff and even make that your precious new growth is all brittle and ready to break of before it can even do anything. Papaya can remove residue, excess oils and dirt, from both the hair and scalp.
A DOPE Natural Conditioner!
The same enzymes that are used to tenderize meat also have a conditioning effect on the hair. We talked about how papaya can remove product build-up on your luscious tresses. Now once that gunky build-up is gone, your cuticles are able to open up and suck up that moisture and those nutrients can be infused into your hair shaft, and then shut back so that the moisture and nutrients are locked in.
You can find many products that contain papaya leaf extract which has been shown to revitalize and condition hair, or you could blend ½ of a papaya with 1 cup of yogurt and 1 tbsp. of honey to make your own homemade conditioner.

If you have very thick type 4 hair, you probably know how difficult it can be to get those SUPER-DEFINED curls that you see so often featured on our Instagram.
But don't even trip honey, because your girl NaturallyTemi grabbed her camera, her Hydratherma Foaming Mousse, Jsheaoil and a ton of assorted sized perm rods just so she could teach you how to get the most POPPINEST CURLS (LOL) in the building! Fried chicken grease don't POP like this boo!
What's really dope is that she give a 360 view of the curls after she's done droppin' some knowledge on you. She aint playin' round....
She wrote about the style too. She says she usually gets about 5-6 days from this super-defined style.
As far as maintenance goes, she keeps her hairstyle together once it is out of the curl rods by putting it in 3 ponytails and putting a hair bonnet on. She fluffs and shakes that bad girl in the morning and BAM! Ready to go!
Temi says that the Hydratherma Foaming Mousse helps retain moisture in her hair to an extent, but the leave-in she puts in before the mousse on is what mainly keeps her hair super-moisturized. She also mentions that she definitely prefers Hydratherma Foaming Mousse over the popular Creme of Nature Foaming Mousse.
The "Awww HECKY NAW" Moment of the Video
There was one big drawback to this hairstyle for folks that might be a little on the "lazy natural" side, or simply "AINT GOT TIME FOR ALLDAT!"... What's the big downer you ask?
Well... She mentions that she left the rollers in for two days! TWO DANG DAYS! Girrrrrrrl..... But I admit, it was super-cute and she says didn't go out much in those days and if she did need to go out she would wear a cute hair scarf.
So pretty much, try doing this style when you know you don't have to be anywhere for a couple days, lol. Netflix and chill on them fools, then step out like BOW! Curl on super-defined Fleek mode! Check out the video below!
BTW... Some of the ladies were askin' about that FIRE lipstick she was wearing, she says it is from the Colouredrainelipstick line, it's call "2am".

It's no secret that massaging your scalp stimulates hair growth through increased blood circulation and superior scalp health. ( For more scalp health info read about the WOW method)
Still though, massaging ANYTHING with your hands for more than a couple minutes can getting tiring, can cause hand cramping and if you have arthritis (or 'Arthur' as my mama used to say).... forget about it!
It has soft vibrating tips that deep massage your scalp, it's waterproof for use in the shower or bath. You'll experience the benefits of enhanced cleaning to help your hair grow out faster.
In my opinion, massaging your scalp should be a part of everyone's weekly routine. I've noticed that I remember to keep up with my routines when I've invested in things that give me quicker results and help me do less work.
Yeah, I'm lazy & triflin' SOMETIMES, haa! But honestly, this is not just about being lazy, the type of massage you get from this scalp massage brush is lot more thorough and quicker without tiring your hands out. It just makes sense.
The Vitagoods scalp invigorating massage brush works with batteries and has an ON/OFF button to crank up the massage vibrations.
Naptural85 used this after her deep conditioning session and loved it, and now she uses it every time she co-washes her hair.
She says that her scalp feels so much cleaner since using the massage brush and she is really a big fan, you can tell because she uses it so much that the name of the product is wearing off, you can hardly see the letters anymore, lol!
And remember that this Vitagoods scalp massage brush is powerfully efficient, you don't need to grind away with your hands. You can think of it much the way you'd think of an electric toothbrush, you don't want to put tons of pressure on it, just apply it with light pressure and let it do it's job.
Benefits of Blood Circulation On Your Scalp
The deep massage you get from this massage brush greatly increase your circulation. But why is that important? Well... Circulation determines the flow of oxygen into the scalp, your follicles need this for healthy, steady hair growth. You can give your scalp a boost in circulation by massaging it.
One way scalp massaging increases blood circulation is by warming the vessels. This makes the roots stronger, which helps slow or stop excessive shedding beyond the normal or average hundred strands a day.
Massaging also reduces stress hormones that interfere with the your hair growth cycle. When your stress hormones are raging, your body compensates and doesn’t run as efficiently. This means your body will use the water and food you consume to keep your vital organs operating; your hair, skin and nails are last on your body’s priority list of nutrient distribution and suffer the ugly consequences. The Vitagoods scalp massage brush helps you massage your scalp to superior health and promotes a scalp condition that is ready for hair growth.
Products Often Used With The Vitagoods Massage Brush
1. FORMALDEHYDE: This is not only a product used in some hair products but in MANY nail polishes, formaldehyde should definitely be a "NO-GO" in the hair lines you choose to use.
It's often used in hair care products containing water to slow bacteria growth. That's all well and good but Formaldehyde is a suspected carcinogen and may cause skin reactions, lead to joint pain, allergies, trigger heart palpitations, headaches, ear infections, dizziness, and chest pains. (Join 17,700+ Lovely Sistas who are getting smart, fast hair growth tips)
2. METHYLENE GLYCOL: Beware.... This is nothing more than Formaldehyde by another name.
Leading hair straighteners, including Brazilian Blowout, claim that formaldehyde mixed with water creates a new chemical, methylene glycol. That is like saying that sweet tea does not contain sugar.
3. ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL: This ingredient has the MAJOR potential to dry your hair out and cause serious breakage! It can be found in cosmetics, hand lotion, and hair color rinses. Natural hair of African descent does not interact with this ingredient well at all.
This ingredient can also cause dizziness, depression, headaches, and nausea if inhaled directly. Definitely crossing this off of my list of ingredients I allow/turn a blind eye to. If you see Isopropyl alcohol in your ingredient list toss it (especially if it is listed in the top 10 ingredients on the list)
4. PROPYLENE GLYCOL: It's always troubling when products that are used for other non-human related things are used in a hair product or ingredient that has to come in contact with our skin. This is one of them.
Propylene glycol is used as the main ingredient in antifreeze if you can believe that!
People who work with this substance are told to wear gloves since it easily penetrates the skin, however we apply this humectant to our bodies quite frequently (deodorant, makeup, toothpaste, hair care products…etc) without any form of protection.
This chemical is stated to cause dry skin, dermatitis, hives, eczema, and other allergic reactions.
5. IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA and DMDM HYDANTOIN: Thought we'd finished talking about formaldehyde? I wish... These ingredients actually release formaldehyde (ugh!) They can cause irritation to your respiratory system and create heart palpitations!
6. DEA (diethanolamine) MEA (momoethnanolamine) TEA (triethanolamine): DEA and MEA are hormone disrupting chemicals that are usually listed with the compound being neutralized.
Most beauty products contain this like bubble baths, body washes, facial cleansers, and soap. These ingredients if absorbed into the skin frequently can lead to liver and kidney cancer.
They also lead to dry hair and skin. Which is why they are a big no-no for your hair care regimen. Even natural products use DEA and MEA on occasion which is why it is still important to read the label of a “natural” or “organic” product! ( Get FREE Hair Growth Tips for 4c Hair HERE)
7. SODIUM LAURYL SUFATE (SLS) & SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES): This product is a detergent used in most shampoos and foaming properties. SLS strips your hair of its natural oils and leave it dry and brittle.
Because they are cheap ingredients they are used in most personal care produces and is used in testing labs as the standard to irritate skin.
If you use shampoo with SLS there is a possibility that it may be absorbed into the body which is not a good thing at all.
Too much presence of nitrates can become toxic in the body. This ingredient can stay in your body for up to five days, and it may be damaging to the immune system especially in through your skin.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)– SLES is the alcohol form (ethoxylated) of SLS. It is slightly less irritating than SLS, but may be more drying. Both ingredients can be absorbed into the blood stream through the skin.
If you’ve found any of these ingredients on your product list are you considering throwing them out or finishing the product? Let us know we’re interested to see how you’ve responded to this list!
Always check your ingredient list carefully and make sure you are aware of what is going in and on your body!

In the past, she used gro aut oilwith great success and got 2 inches of growth in 8 weeks! She made up her own version of the oil with additional ingredients that she feels improved the formula. Super Hair Growth Oil DIY Recipe & Instructional Video
Whenever the words hair growth and oil are in the same sentence there are a few select oils that most experts would say MUST be part of the mix.
For example, always see that your formula has oils that encourage increased circulation to the scalp as well as follicular strength so that your hair keeps from breaking. Examples include coconut oil, peppermint oil or tea tree oil. [Related article: Learn what does Moroccan Oil do to curly hair]
For this hair growth recipe you will need the following:
INSTRUCTIONS: Carefully add all of your ingredients to a glass jar and mix well. When you want to use your oil just add what you need to an applicator bottle. Curly Proverbz makes it very clear that you should not use your mix beyond four weeks.
Because this recipe calls for a few ingredients that can cause allergies you should be sure to test everything especially if you are not familiar with some of the ingredients. [See Article: Best Blow Dryer for Naturally Kinky Hair]

It allows you to straight kinky/curly hair without the high heat of professional-level flat irons. There had been a ton of Tweets and Facebook posts in different Black Hair Groups about the new miracle hair tool.
But there was one big problem....
The $300 PRICE TAG!!!
Like many others at the time, I wasn't dropping no dang $300 for it.
But all y'all that was complaining right along with me will be hyped up that 10 months later the price has dropped to less than $200! And that's FROM DAFNI (the real manufacturer), be careful of people selling knockoff fakes.
I say to be careful of the fakes and knockoff brands because there are TONS of them out now after the success of Dafni's Brush. The DAFNI company is the originator of this beloved "hair straightening ceramic brush", some have bought fakes and been very upset about it.
But anyway, the idea of the Dafni brush is similar to any other straightening tool - you slowly run the hot ceramic through your hair and it gets rid of any waves or kinks.
What DAFNI claims makes their product better than competitors is that it has more surface area than the traditional straightener, which means that your hair could be done in as little as two minutes. Plus since it's already a brush, the hair wouldn't get tangled.
The Dafni Brush at work on Kinky/Curly Natural Hair!
Here is a popular video from a Facebook user named Kimberley Satterwhite, she posted her first experience using it and she thought you might like that we share it with you right here. See the video below.
Be honest, what do you think of the results?
Given the texture of the little girl’s hair that it was demonstrated on, do you think this will work for your texture?
Here's Kimberly's (the mom) Comment From Her Video Post:
Sometimes things look so good you have to think, "That just can't be!" And "It's just too good to be true!" Like how I earn 6 figures as a stay at home mom. I just say, "Let's just Try it & see"! I understand how it feels to be a total skeptic of something! So I'm going to try out the 'Dafni Ceramic Straightening Brush'. DOES IT WORK?! You can see for yourself IF In Fact IT Works or not?! This takes the place of flat ironing and saves you MAJOR TIME! I am TOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!
NOTE: I was so excited to use this i didn't wash my daughters hair. She does have GEL in her hair i just ran it through really quick to test it. Imagine this on her CLEAN hair! WOW. I'm very happy with this product! (Get Hair Growth Tips from BlackHairOMG's Email Tipline)

The only thing we didn't think was that great was the choice of flat iron. The Remington flat iron is a flat iron for people who have never used a top-tier flat iron and are looking for something cheap. Nothing wrong with that, it cost so little money that you really can't complain. But if you are looking for much better flat ironing and curling results, it may be wise to invest in a hair tool that is made for ultimate performance and that will last for a long time.

The natural hair puff is a go-to look for many stylish naturalistas.
The great thing about the natural hair afro puff is that you can use the style whether your hair is long or short.
This amazing high puff tutorial from I Am Posh Syd is specifically aimed at naturals with 4b and 4c type hair, but in reality many other naturals with different hair types can use this useful. Below we will also give you a list of the natural hair products she used to achieve her look.
After doing the Big Chop in order to go natural many ladies realize that they have no idea what to do with their ‘do.
The time period following the Big Chop is the perfect time to start building a relationship with your kinks, coils and twists. It is also the time when your luscious locs need the most tender, loving care and when you will train your hair how to retain its moisture.
Instead of covering you hair up and waiting for it to grow long, try a cute high puff on short natural hair. Creating this natural hair puff style should begin with damp, moisturized hair. If it is not wash day use a spray bottle to dampen hair and apply a great moisturizer. The natural hair puff style will work with hair as short as 1 inch long.
Hair Puffed Up
The secret to a full puff on short hair is to not put your hair in a ponytail but to use a headband to create the puff.
Moisten your hair with water and apply moisturizer.
Use a wide tooth comb and soft bristled brush to direct hair up to the top of the head.
Place the large headband around your neck.
Apply edge control, pomade or gel around the edges and nape and smooth with the soft brush.
Pull your headband up to your forehead and while using both hands slide the headband up until desired puff side is reached. The farther back you slide the band the smaller the puff will be.
Fluff out puff, smooth edges and add hair accessories if desired.
Hair Puffed Out Style
Complete steps 1-5 above.
Instead of pulling the headband straight back pull one side of the band over to the side -Example: If you want the hair to fall to the right pull the left side of the band over to the right.
Continue to step 6 above. Fluff your hair to cover the band.
Natural Hair Puff Around Version
Part hair from ear-to-ear and create a short side part on whichever side you prefer.
Create a braid or flat twist on each side of the part to frame the face (use of a holding product is optional).
Use bobby pins to secure the ends of each braid at the back of the head.
Fluff out the remaining hair.
Warning About Wrapping Your Hair Too Tight
As if a banging headache isn't bad enough, using super-tight headbands all day for the sake of a cute natural hair puff can put you at risk for traction alopecia, it's no joke. As the headband squeezes your head, it’s actually s-l-o-w-l-y sliding its way up, pulling your hair along with it. You can lose hair from those pressure points, namely the very front of your head, the temple region and the points a few inches behind your ears.
Soak your headband in an oil. The oil will help loosen the elastic bonds a bit. Afterwards, pre-stretch the band before you begin wearing it. Wrap it around a chair back or something wide enough to give a good stretch so that by the time you put it on, it won’t be as tight as when it was fresh “out the box”.
Make sure your hair is well-moisturized. Even when taking all the necessary precautions, you can still be at risk for breakage if you wear a hair accessory like a headband or scarf on hair that is in need of moisture. Those dry and thirsty strands are more prone to hair breakage.
Use a thin satin or silk scarf instead. You’re better able to control how tight your hair will be as you tie the scarf to form your natural hair puff. The main benefits of using silk and satin instead of cotton is that they won’t suck the moisture out of your precious hair.
Try pantyhose. It works! Pantyhose are nice and stretchy. Cut the foot and top of one side of an old pair lengthwise, so you have a piece long enough to wrap around the circumference of your head at least once. Like the shoelace, just tuck the excess in or use a couple bobby pins to secure the ends in place.
Use a shoelace. Yeah that's right! Look, your hair is going to cover it up anyways so don’t be worried about it. Most shoelaces are plenty long enough to allow room to “give” and then whatever excess you have left hanging, just tuck it underneath and no one will know!
Take a break. A natural hair puff can be a great go-to style for its simplicity but constantly wearing the same hair accessories day after day after day can definitely cause unwanted wear and tear on your hair.
Hopefully these tips can help you on your way to natural hair puff perfection without sacrificing comfort and safety!

Here is everything you need to know about how to use a black tea rinse for shedding hair and stopping hair loss.
Black tea rinses can give your hair that extra growth boost that you desire, especially when you thoroughly cleanse and condition your hair.
According to many natural hair gurus this hair saving rinse absolutely works. So, for you tea heads out there who love a big cup of antioxidants to start your morning, you may want to give your hair and scalp a sip of it as well.
Whether you are looking to reduce shedding and add shine, elasticity, and bounce, there are a few rinses that you can use to help with your desired result. Check out this black tea rinse for hair method, and if you wish, add your own mixes to cater to your hair and beauty needs.
Black tea can be used to reduce hair shedding and save your locs. The caffeine in the better black tea brands help block DHT, the main hormone that is at fault for hair loss. Black tea actually contains more caffeine than coffee, and it works very well.
Here's what you do. Simply apply the black tea rinse after you thoroughly shampoo and/or condition your natural hair. Some naturals like to leave the rinse in. Other curlies like to apply the black tea rinse while they are deep conditioning their hair.

If you want to do a black tea rinse to stop shedding hair, here is what you will do:
Get 2-4 bags of black tea and steep them in hot, boiling water. Let them steep for a few hours, or overnight if needed. The stronger the brew, the better your hair results will be. Pour the black tea into a spray bottle, After you shampoo your natural hair, spray the black tea concoction onto your hair and scalp. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes.
Wash out the rinse and deep condition your hair. WARNING: The black tea rinse can actually dry out you hair, so it is important that you condition your hair afterwards. When the QRedew came on the market, it was different from other products. Hair product review after review talked about how it could be used as a moisturizer, a curl refresher AND as a deep conditioner tool.
The Q-Redew handheld hair steamer is great for naturals because it uses warm steam as mist to enhance your hair’s natural texture and volume. The Q-Redew hydrates, reshapes and restyles dry hair in minutes according to its site.
What Are Q Redew Reviews Raving About?
Ease of Use – Women are to busy to be bothered with complicated hair equipment, people have lives to live, jobs to work and kids to raise. The Q-Redew hair steamer is super easy to set up and use. You simply fill the water reservoir, plug it in, and wait for the red light to say it is ready. The bonus is you can steam your hair in sections. If you are styling your hair, you steam, add your moisturizers, and style that section. If you are interrupted, you can stop and continue where you left off.
Works as a Super Moisturizer – So as you should already know, heat helps moisturizers get into the hair shaft. The Q Redew reviews have been claiming that this machine is like a hand-held super-moisturizer. When your hair needs a serious shot of moisture, naturals have been turning to the QRedew to handle the job. For example, If you have an old, dry twist out. You can just steam it, add a premium leave-in conditioner, and seal with an oil. Some naturals choose to do this instead of co-washing their natural hair.
Curl-Refreshing Ability – While water is moisturizing for natural hair, too much can cause tangling and excess shrinkage. This is a problem many naturalistas have to fight against. With the QRedew Steamer, you can quickly refresh your kinks and curls without applying too much water and causing shrinkage. For many naturals this advantage is a game changer.
The Q-Redew Work as a Detangler – Detangling my thick, dense hair is a battle that many naturals dread. Who doesn't HATE detangling? Well, according to the Q-redew reviews, when you use the natural hair steamer, it just melts through tangles with ease.
Safer Way to Stretch Your Hair – Many Q-Redew reviews mentioned that this tool is amazing for stretching your hair. When you steam an older do, your hair can get that moisturized blow out look!
Here are a Few Q-Redew Reviews From Other Naturals
First I want to say sorry for this long review but there is a good reason for it.
Ever since I found out about this product I have been trying to come up with clever ways to steam my hair without shelling out all the money for the Q-Redew. I tried using the steamer from my Caruso Steam Rollers, it was very uncomfortable and there wasn't enough steam for me. So I went out and bought a My Little Steamer, for $20, and there was a LOT of steam coming out of that little thing and it got pretty hot.
It worked for me but I started to notice something on my hair I have never seen, small white dots about 1/4 in. from the bottom of my strands, and when I pulled on them, my hair would break off. I looked up possible reasons why this could be happening and I found out that these are usually caused by using heat on wet hair, that causes bubbles to form on the strands of hair, called bubble hair.
You may be wondering why this is a part of my review, it is a warning to you all. I don't use heat on my hair very often, I feel that the extreme heat from this small steamer (My Little Steamer particularly) is what caused these bubbles on my hair, and I have seen reviews where women say they use this steamer on their hair, and I would not recommend it. That steamer is definitely good for clothes, but not for hair (but that is whole other review). Using that streamer was the only thing in my regimen that had changed over the 2 weeks I was using it and noticed the damage to my hair. I really want to stress that in this review.
Ladies although you may have a found a loop hole around buying this device, you might end up experiencing the damage I experienced just to save a few bucks. Finally this brings me to my review of the Q-Redew. I know the price is scarey, but go sign up on the Q-Redew mailing list and wait on a good coupon, I used a $20 off coupon I got for a Black Friday sale, so in the end, the damage to my hair from the clothes steamer and the coupon made me decide to fork out the money for this device. I received it today, once they shipped it I got it within a few days, a lot sooner than I had expected.
I have 3c/4a medium porosity hair, and I am working on 4 day old dirty hair that has been in an afro puff 3 of those days and today I am rocking flattened, limp, slept on twist out from last night...I plugged this baby in, waited for it to heat up and went to work. I am very pleased with the results, my hair looking good and full and happy. It's looking like a good third day hair where my curls are full and yet still a little defined but not a matted mess. I only had to refill this once to complete my hair. I am excited about using this for my detangling and deep conditioning sessions.
It is a lot smaller than I expected. I like the vintage mint green color, and I am very pleased that I decided to purchase this product. I do feel like women who like crunchy or stiff ultra defined curls may not like this product. I personally like that it give my hair volume and makes it look fuller within minutes. I don't need ultra defined curls I just want big happy healthy hair. I only knocked off 1 star because of the price.
I have NEVER had a better product. I use this thing at least twice a week. I steam, detangle, condition, and use it as a facial treatment some nights. I LOVVVVE it! I have 2 different textures in my hair, fine 4b on top and thick 4a on bottom. The texture on top always breaks no matter the technique. I have maximum hydrated, curly and tightly coiled, wide toothed combed, water only, hennaed, and oiled and sealed, It still breaks when I detangle. This Q-Redew has cut my breakage down and my anxiety. I have retained my entire 1 and 1/2 inches over the past 3 months. I even use it on my kids hair who all have different textures on the chart.
I dont have to spend dreadful time in the bathtub detangling their hair. I pull out the Q-Redew and its detangled, oiled, and styled in 10 minutes at the most AND it looks, feels, and is healthy. I can not express how much I love this thing. If you are having issues with your hair, if you have tried every method in the book, if you have curly, coily, or kinky hair then this tool is for you!
The only con I have experienced is that I have to refill the thing after each section of hair. To cut down on the annoyance of that, I keep a water bottle and fill up after each section. Refilling is not enough for me to remove a star. I fill like if the receptacle was bigger, the steamer could not be handheld, so I'm cool with it.
I hate screwing with my hair...there, said it. I am not one to spend an hour fussing and fussing ---I want to wash it, scrunch some product in it and go. And I want to have my hair look good the next day as well. Yup, asking for a lot. Well, with the Q-Redew Steamer, I can spend 5 minutes or less on my naturally curly hair on day two (often day 3 as well) and go. This item is so worth the money---it really works!
For my 4c hair that constantly needs moisturizing, this little gadget is simple and easy to use in the mornings. I do the LCO method almost every morning so this really helps. And it absolutely helps with detangling. I use it for everything. If you have 4c (really 4e) type hair, then you need this. Trust me!!
This product is easy to use. Fill the reservoir, plug it up, wait a few minutes... then bam!!! it's ready for use. It doesn't do as great a job as the hooded steamers, but its great for a midweek moisture booster.
This amazing bantu knot out alternative is what Jessica Pettway calls her “bantu flat out.” Never heard of that before? Well, that's because the bantu flat out is her unique technique.
For years in the natural hair game, Jessica couldn’t get the bantu knot out to work for her no matter how hard she tried! Not to mention, she didn't like the uncomfortable idea of trying to sleep with a whole bunch of knots in her head. So she invented an amazing alternative to the bantu knot out, a natural hairstyles version for women who are "Bantu knot challenged". Now naturals who have trouble with getting bantu knots can also enjoy the definition of a bantu knot out!
So what do you think about this bantu knot out alternative?
Many naturals with 3c, 4a, 4b, and 4c hair complain about their bantu knots never coming out right.
Have any of you tried this before? Some say that this bantu knot out alternative method looks somewhat similar to pin curls. The results are really stunning and defined natural curls and Jessica has proven that that is definitely a great natural hair alternative to traditional Bantu Knots.
When Angelica Sweeting heard her young daughter wishing for blonde hair and white skin similar to her doll's, she decided to create "The Angelica Doll" for little girls with curly hair, wider noses, and fuller lips.
The doll comes with hair that you can twist and knot just like real-life natural hair.
Sweeting's Naturally Perfect Dolls Kickstarter campaign has already raised $23,000 of the $25,000 needed to launch production of the doll, which promotes positive beauty ideals and self-acceptance for young girls.
Sweeting and her daughters tested The Angelica Doll's hair for eight months with common natural hair practices, such as twisting, bantu knotting, and curling, to make sure little girls could style and wash their doll's hair exactly how they would do their own.

♦ First off, I want to to stress the importance of supporting Angelica's business. If you have the means to do so you can help her get these dolls made for thousands of little girls by contributing to her kickstarter campaign at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/angelica/the-angelica-doll-a-natural-hair-doll-for-young-gi and hey, I know it's hard out here on these skreets (yeah, I said SKREETS), so if you don't have money to help her get these dolls made then just share this article. Someone else who reads this might contribute and it will be because you let them know about it through sharing this story.
♦ I always love products like these and BlackHairOMG is known for promoting these kinds of businesses and products because they make a difference, I just recently wrote about the coloring book for natural hair kids. When children grow up rarely seeing a positive reflection of themselves in the things that they are entertained by it has a negative psychological effect.
Angelica's daughter thought that the standard of being beautiful was the dolls that she played with and nothing else. Little girls adore their dolls and so she began to adore what she was not and undervalue what and who she is. It's not a conscientious choice she made, it is the mental conditioning that comes from being exposed only to what is the opposite of yourself and being told that it's the most precious thing without seeing any alternatives. Natural hair dolls gives the girls a chance to see beautiful representations of themselves.
♦ This serves as a lesson to myself and you as well as far as business goes too. When you see something missing, something that is needed... MAKE IT. It's much more effective than wishing and hoping for something and it's a great opportunity to build a business, make money while giving people something they need and want. More people need to have the entrepreneurial spirit like Angelica. I'm supporting her, I hope you will too.

Chris-Tia Donaldson is the curly Harvard-grad CEO of Thank God I'm Natural hair products, her company's products have been picked by Target as they turn towards embracing the natural hair movement.
If you want major companies like Target to cater to naturals the way they should it's important that you buy these products, just because a product makes it onto the shelves doesn't mean it stays. They care about sales, so buy TGIN products to show that there is a buying public that wants natural hair embraced by the corporations.
I will do everything I can to support Chris-Tia's company, especially since she's a Detroit girl, we Detroiters gotta stick together! She also will be one of my featured guests in an exclusive expert panel interview that will soon be released on this site, stay tuned!
Three years ago I did the big chop and started my natural hair journey. It wasn't planned and unlike a lot of unplanned things, cutting my hair turned out to be the best decision I have ever made.
While I watched my hair grow, something amazing happened.
I fell in love with my natural hair again which I haven't really been since my first relaxer. It was thick and had a healthy natural glow. I realized that I have been paying good money to achieve similar results without any success.
If someone told me all I needed was a pair of scissors, and a brave hair stylist who wouldn't argue against the big chop, I would have done it years ago.
It has been an interesting journey and I had to learn to be patient with my hair. Hair growth does not happen overnight and hair envy is a killer.
Go to those YouTube channels for inspiration, but don't expect to achieve the same hair growth because we all have different hair types.
Here are my top 5 products that have been keeping my hair looking good.
This might come as a surprise for some, but it is the most important for hair growth. Natural hair can be very dry at times, so, moisturize, moisturize and moisturize. Make sure that your natural hair products are water-based for added moisture. Read those labels like you would read food labels.
To make sure that my hair gets enough moisture I mix water with olive oil and spray m
y hair regularly before using any other hairspray. I choose olive oil because it is readily available in my kitchen, but there are so many good natural oils out there to pick from.
2. Tresemme Naturals Conditioner
Naturals hunt for a good conditioner like it's gold, because shampoo is a bare necessity but a really good conditioner is a life-saver. With this conditioner the packaging grabbed me and I think the word NATURALS written in bold had something to do with it. On close inspection it got even better.
It's silicone free which means my hair will not be left sticky and dull. And if you are into organic foods, you will be happy to know that this conditioner has organic orange extracts. It smells like citrus heaven too. When I am feeling too lazy to wash my hair I think of this as my reward for doing it anyway.
After a protective hairstyle I find that my hair gets very dry and before I do anything I use this hair fertilizer and gently comb it out from top then roots to avoid further hair loss. My water bottle with olive oil is never too far away and I spray it whenever I feel like its needed. This hair fertilizer is water based, so it's perfect for dry hair.
4. Dark and Lovely Night Wrap Cream
I have used Dark and Lovely products all my life and when I decided to go natural I didn't find anything suitable for my hair. So you can imagine my surprise when I saw this night wrap cream. I inspected it suspiciously because it looked so much like a relaxer tub, but anything with Amla Oil, is good to me. I decided to give it a try. I just love how my hair feels in the morning. It looks soft and has a healthy shine that makes the night wrap ritual worth it. I also use it when I am twisting my hair just to seal in the moisture.
This is the only spray in a can that gives the instant healthy shine for my protective styles with a smell that I can tolerate. I used to use two different hairsprays, one for a healthy shine and one to mask the smell till I found this one. I am sure my pillows are happy too.
A lot of people are going natural these days and there are a lot of miracle products out there, but you can't keep buying new products. It's good to try new products, in fact its a necessity but always stick to the products that keep your hair looking healthy and strong. It's all about good healthy hair after all.
Step 5- I wash the conditioner out with cool water. The benefits are that cold water retains your hair’s moisture and leaves your hair less prone to frizz.
Most people add moisturizer or whatever to style their hair. This is a mix I make to get my hair on the right track for the week. And yes I do add moisturizer (I make my own) sometimes on the third or fourth day. I keep my hair shiny and soft with this method.
